Chick Basics • All chicks are sexed female by the hatchery. • All chicks are vaccinated. • Chicks should be kept in a brooder, such as a large plastic tote/bin. • Chicks should have access at all times to a balanced chick feed and clean water. • Chicks need a heat lamp for the first 8 weeks of life; the lamp should be mounted about 12-18” above the floor of the brooder. • For the first week newsprint, paper towels or similar should be used for bedding.
