Operational Overview

Purpose: To prevent aquatic nuisance species from migrating to Lake Michigan

Operation: Barrier introduces electric field to CSSC to harass fish to prevent northward migration

Safety Consequences: Field is harmful to humans; stray current is generated; EMF’s are generated

Safety at the Barrier Project

Mitigation: Minimize persons accessing site Implementation of specific work rules, safety

briefings Isolation of current carrying structures Use of suitable personal protective equipment

(PPE) Ongoing studies on how to minimize corrosion

risk and risk of railroad signaling interference

Safety Expectations – Site TourPlease stay with your respective groups. Do not

wander away from the group. Please .. Do not touch any equipment. Safety

measures have been put into play today to facilitate the safe movement of many personnel.

If you have questions regarding the safety of the operation, please ask .. There will be key staff at the project site ready to answer your question.

IF…we don’t have the immediate answer, we promise to get the answer and provide that information to you
