Front Office during these times: M-F 8:30am-5pm we will take down your household information, create a

household in our system and email you back with your active household number within 2 business days.

Rules & Eligibility The 2019 Chicago Open Competition is open to all eligible registered members in good standing of the U. S. Figure Skating. Club, facility and USFS liability shall be governed by USFS Rule #1600. Competition level is based on the highest test passed as of June 21, 2019. Any skater who chooses may skate up one level. Two entries in a division will constitute a competition. Skaters will be grouped in events based on their testing status as of June 21, 2019.

Entries must be postmarked on or before June 21, 2019 and must include the entry fee. Late entries will be notified if accepted and charged a $25 late fee. No refunds, including medical or religious, will be made after the closing date of June 21 unless there is a cancellation of a competition event. (USFS Rule #3045) There will be a $25 service charge for any returned checks which must be paid in cash, along with the entry fee, prior to the start of the competition. Any change in a skater’s level or event after the entry deadline is subject to a $25 change fee.

Hotels

The official host hotel for the Chicago Open is the Marriot Courtyard Chicago Glenview/Northbrook. The special rate per night is $99 per night (up to 4 people). You may also purchase for $10 an American Breakfast. To make a reservation under the block, please call the hotel at 847-803-2500 and ask to speak with the reservations department. Make sure to mention that you are part of the group Chicago Open in order to receive the group discount and be added to the group block. Practice Ice Practice Ice will be available each competition day, as the schedule permits. Practice ice availability and reservation/payment procedures will be posted on our website at www.glenviewicecenter.org after the competition schedule is available. Music will NOT be played on practice ice sessions.

Music All competitors must provide their music on compact disc. CD’s should be of good quality with only one piece of music per disc. CD’s should be clearly marked with the competitor’s name & phone number, event, length, coach and home club or rink. CD’s must be turned in at the time of registration. A duplicate disc should be readily available during the competition. CD’s are to be picked up at the registration desk after the event is over. The Chicago Figure Skating Club and the Glenview Ice Center cannot accept responsibility for CD’s. Music left behind will not be mailed back to the skater.

Registration Check-In Skaters may check-in at the registration desk approximately 1 hour before the first event each day and will remain open until the completion of the final event of the day. Skaters should be at the rink at least 1 hour prior to their scheduled event. Always check with the registration desk for announcements of any changes to the competition schedule.

Awards Trophies will be given in all events for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and ribbons will be given for 4th and 5th places. All awards will be distributed following the posting of the results for each event. Final rounds will be held for all free skating events which are pre-preliminary and higher. The number of skaters moving on to the final round will be posted at the competition. Short programs are not combined with free skating for final rounds. Final rounds are Free Skating only.

Photography / Video No flash photography is permitted of the skaters on the ice. No tripods may be used and rink power sources may NOT be accessed. Only handheld video cameras are permitted. Videos and photographs of your competitor may be available for purchase in the Ice Center lobby during the competition or on-line in the weeks that follow.

2019 Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating

Welcome to our 9th season! The Skating Council of Illinois offers skaters the opportunity to earn an invitation to the Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating by competing in designated Free Skate events at our competitions. Skaters who compete in Grand Prix designated levels at a minimum of four (4) Grand Prix competitions may be invited to compete, at no cost, at the Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating. Invitations will be limited at each level and will be based on the competitor’s total points.

This year’s competition will be held at the Centennial Ice Arena in Highland Park on September 22, 2019. Special recognition will be given to skaters who compete in all 9 events. Grand Prix information and standings will be posted on the Skating Council of Illinois website at http://www.skatingcouncilofillinois.org/

Awards: The designated Free Skate events of each competition will be eligible for accumulating points. The system for scoring points for the final award will be as follows:

Bonus for Final Round 1 point

Competitors who perform their free skate program more than once at a competition (i.e., qualifying and final rounds) will receive the highest points earned for any one performance. If an event has less than 6 skaters, the points will be awarded as if there were 6 skaters in the group. If there is only one skater in the group, he or she will be awarded 5 points. At the end of the Series, competitors who have competed in at least four (4) competitions may be invited to the Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating, subject to limitations at each level.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I enter the Championships? Participation in the Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating is by invitation only. To be invited to compete, you must have competed in designated levels in at least four (4) of the Grand Prix competitions. The number of competitors in each level will be limited, based on their total points. Not everyone who competed in at least four (4) competitions may be invited. Eligible competitors will be sent invitations immediately following the Greater Chicagoland Fall Invitational.

What does it cost to enter? There is no entry fee for the Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating. The Skating Council of Illinois and our participating clubs are supporting this event. Practice Ice will be available for purchase. There will also be vendors, including video and still photography. Who will keep my points and how will I know how many points I have? Ed Mann, a National Accountant, will tabulate points as the season progresses. Standings will be posted on the Skating Council of Illinois web site at www.skatingcouncilofillinois.org It is the responsibility of each competitor to verify the accuracy of the points posted on the website. Discrepancies should be brought to the attention of Ed Mann. What happens to my points if I change levels during the season? Your points stay with you if you skate at more than one level. Eligibility to skate at the Illinois Grand Prix of Figure Skating will be determined by the competitor’s most recent competition level. Who can I ask if I have more questions? Competitors must also bring a copy of their competition music on CD as a backup in case of technical difficulties and must be available rink side during the competition. Only CDs (standard CD-R format only) will be accepted for backups and must be clearly marked with the competitor’s name, event, and running time. LIABILITY: U.S. Figure Skating, Chicago Figure Skating Club and Glenview Ice Center accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in this competition. This is in accordance with Rule 1600 of the official U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook. JUDGING SYSTEM: INTERNATIONAL JUDGING SYSTEM The International Judging System (IJS) will be used for the following events: Well Balanced IJS Freeskate Program Pre Juvenile-Senior and Well Balanced IJS Short Program Open Juv/Juv through Senior.

PLANNED PROGRAM CONTENT (PPC): DEADLINE: DATE June 21, 2019 Competitors participating in IJS events must submit their PPC via the EMS Skater Portal no later than June 21, 2019. Program content must be entered under the Music & Program Content tab for this competition.

6.0 JUDGING SYSTEM The 6.0 Judging System will be used for; Well Balanced 6.0 Freeskate Program, Beginner through Preliminary, Excel Program 6.0 Freeskate Program, Beginner through Senior, Excel Compulosies Beginner-Preliminary, Compulsory Moves No Test-Senior, Jump Challenge and Spin Challenge. OFFICIAL NOTICES: An official bulletin board will be maintained in the lobby. It is the responsibility of each competitor, parent and coach to check the bulletin board frequently for any schedule changes and/or additional information. Skaters are requested to arrive 45 minutes prior to the scheduled time of their event. A tentative schedule of events will be posted prior to the competition. TEST CREDIT: Skaters that meet the requirements for test credit may request their test credit forms at registration. Forms must be picked up at the registration desk prior to the end of the competition.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL COACHES: To be a credentialed coach at a sanctioned nonqualifying competition, coaches must be included within a skater’s registration or updated through their EMS Skater Portal. All coach compliance is verified via EMS and is connected to the U.S. Figure Skating database. U.S. Figure Skating athletes:
