  • Ancient Greeks chewed mastiche made from tree resin
  • Ancient Mayans chewed tree sap mixed with beeswax
  • First commercialized chewing gum: 1848 by John Curtis

  • Chicle tree sap from the Sapodilla Tree found in Central America discovered by The Fleer Bros. in the 1880s.
  • 4 major flavors of gum:
  • - Peppermint
  • - Spearmint
  • - Fruit
  • - Methanol
