October & November 2019

Dear Parents / Carers,

It has been a very busy two months since the last newsletter,

with lots of successful activities to engage families with the life of

the school being held and participated in.

Our children relish the opportunity to share their learning with

you and we have more activities planned for the final month of

this term. Do keep up-to-date via the ‘Parent Weekly Update’

sent home every Friday via DOJO.

We love hearing your thoughts on the activities on offer and

value your views. Therefore, if you have attended any school

events, we kindly ask you to leave feedback in the book in the

office, alternatively you can Dojo feedback through to the

office or to me directly and we shall stick your comments in the

book for you.

I look forward to seeing you and welcoming you all to the future

events here at school.

With kind regards,

Stacey Kendall

Christian value : Compassion

This half term we have been focussing on the value of

Compassion.

The family pages that focus on this value will be sent home

with your child. You may like to complete these together.

Ephesians 4:32

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each

other, just as Christ God forgave you.

October & November Round-up:

Harvest

We started October celebrating Harvest, with Year 4 leading our Assembly in school.

The children sang songs, read poems and prayers too. We began the Worship, by

setting up the food donation table. With everyone’s kind donations, we were able to

distribute 42 packages to the elderly residents of the village and surrounding area.

We know that these were gratefully received and have been sent cards of thanks.

We all went to St Mary’s church to celebrate Harvest there. We talked about the

food we like to eat and the range and choice we have. We were asked o reflect on

what it may be like for some who have no food and who do not eat every day. The

choir sang for us too.

Early Years

The Year 6 children were excellent at giving tours to the prospective new Early Years

parents. They were very informative and conducted themselves excellently. The

parents were very impressed by them and their kind and positive attitude. It was clear how proud they were of being a part of Cheveley!

Buddies

The Year 6 children had the opportunity to spend time with their new Elm Class

Buddies. The children played games and read stories together. It was wonderful to

see how patient the older children were and how much the younger children

enjoyed the time together.

October & November Round-up:

Elm Class refit

Over half term, Elm Class had a refit, with brand new cupboards, shelving and a

teaching wall being installed. The children now have more space in the classroom in

which to play and learn and the space appears much brighter. The shelves have made

accessing the resources so much easier for the children and the teacher’s are very

pleased too!

RE Enrichment

Oak and Cedar took part in a day of RE Enrichment led by Mrs Reed and Mrs Douglas.

The children spent time in different workshops, listening to Bible stories based on justice

and mercy (thank you to the volunteers who dressed up to tell the stories) and carrying

out craft and reflection activities.

October & November Round-up:

Remembrance

Oak Class led the Remembrance Assembly in school. They shared information about

why we remember and read their own World War 2 poems. These were incredibly

moving and thought provoking pieces.

Rev Dr Naomi led the blessing during Worship and it was lovely to welcome her to our

school.

The whole school went to the War Memorial outside St Mary's church, where the

children laid their class wreaths and observed the two minutes silence. There were

members of the public there too observing the silence and they remarked on how

respectful our children were and how wonderful it was to see the whole school joining

in.

Fia, Jason and

Antoni represented

the school and laid

a wreath at the

Cheveley

Remembrance

Service on Sunday

10th November.

October & November Round-up:

Marvellous Maths Morning

This was a brilliant opportunity for our Maths Lead, Mrs Cavill, to share our Calculation Policy with parents and explain how the four operations are taught in school. The parents who came, said that they found having the opportunity to see how multiplication was taught across the school, by visiting all of the classes, was a real ‘eye opener’. Lots of them earned gold stars for their effort!

Phonics ‘Lesson Look’

After the Phonics Evening for parents, the parents were then invited to come and see how phonics is taught in Elm Class using Read Write Inc. They learned about ‘bouncy’ and ‘stretchy’ sounds, played sound finding games and practised writing the phonemes too. They were introduced to Fred the Frog and helped him to blend the sounds together to make words.

More information about Read Write Inc phonics can be found at:

Children in Need

The whole school went ‘spotty’ on Friday 15th November. An enormous thank you to all who took part in our Children in Need event, we raised a whopping £131.95 for this charity.

November. She came to meet the children and staff and lead prayers and blessings for our Remembrance. She is planning on visiting school every Tuesday morning to join Mrs Kendall at the gate, lead Collective Worship, meet with the Worship Council and spend time in class. Please do come and say hello.
