Welcome

Welcome to existing and new residents of Cheswick Village.

Cheswick is a new development with approximately 1000 homes planned. There are good access links to the motorways M32, M4 and M5. Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood train station are a short walk from Cheswick with regular trains to Bristol City Centre and London.

There are a number of shops nearby including the Abbey Wood retail park and a Sainsburys superstore. In neighbouring Harry Stoke there is a community forest path and in nearby Filton a leisure centre and library.

Within the village itself, a new neighbourhood centre providing local shops and amenities is planned to open late-2014. This will include a convenience store, a cafe, restaurant and fitness centre arranged around a new central square.

A brand new primary school, Wallscourt Farm Primary Academy is due to open in September 2013 providing 60 reception places.

South Gloucestershire Council are currenlty taking admissions for places.

Bus tickets

A First Bus day ticket for unlimited travel within zone 1 and 2 costs £4 for adults and £3.60 for children.

A Wessex Red day rider ticket for unlimited travel on the Wessex Red network costs £3 for adults and £1.50 for children.

A Wessex day rider ticket for unlimited travel on any Wessex service within zone 1 and 2 costs £5.70. Smartcards can also be purchased from Wessex Red

offering cheaper travel, visit their website for more details.

Improvements to bus services in the near future

Bus linkA further bus link is being installed to the south of Cheswick on Romney Avenue which will provide further bus improvements to the area.

Bus Rapid Transit Public transport connections to Cheswick Village will be improved with the introduction of the Bus Rapid Transit ‘north fringe route’ in 2016 -17.

This new, reliable, comfortable, high quality bus service will whisk you from a major transport interchange at UWE to the City Centre, via a new bus only junction on the M32, in just 12 minutes. There will also be connections to the business areas at Aztec West, the shopping centre at Cribbs Causeway and out to the Bristol Bath Science Park and the retail centre at Emersons Green. Links to the existing background bus network will ensure that connections are made with minimal fuss or waiting times.

Loan bikes

If you want to give cycling a try without the commitment of buying a bike straight away, you can borrow a bike for a given period (usually up to a month). A £100 refundable deposit is

required and the bike can be delivered to your workplace or home depending on distance and convenience. Men’s, ladies and children’s bikes are available.

There are also a number of electric bikes in our loan fleet, which are available with a refundable deposit of £250. This service includes a one-to-one 30 minute accompanied ride, personal travel planning session and a cycling map. The loan is free and may be extended from the standard one month if you are making good use of the bike.

Cycle to Work scheme

If you decide to buy a bike, many large companies are part of a national Cycle to Work scheme which provides loans to help you buy your own bike and make further savings on bike equipment. Ask your employer to see if they have signed up to the scheme.

Cycle training

New or returning to cycling and would like help to gain confidence? We can provide you with cycle training at a time that suits you. Instructors are available for either one-to-one or group tuition.

Dr Bike (bike servicing)

Dr Bike sessions can be arranged in your local area based on individual needs to undertake safety checks, minor repairs or adjustments on resident’s own bikes. Sessions are usually 30 minutes per bike.

We can also provide a bike maintenance course. This covers maintenance to keep your bike functioning such as fixing punctures, brakes and gears.

10 Cruise control Use cruise control where possible, (if your car has it), as this reduces fuel

Reducing the need to travelOne option for reducing travel costs is to consider whether you need to travel at all, and can instead utilise available technologies (e.g. online shopping, teleconferencing, videoconferencing and remote access for work).
