FW17Author: Cherry Ju
FW17 womenswear depicts a heavy influence of the romantic peasant & prairie
look reworking the current casual bohemian and indigo story into a remix of white and
blue. Floral embroidery and hand crafted ideas continues to provide visual feast to the
coming season.
In terms of women’s knits, the key is on proportion play and tactility through more
luxurious yarn and texture this season. Shapes evolve with a new softness and
volume, with dropped sleeves, unstructured shapes and fullness of length adding
generous volume. Details are pared back for a new approach to modern simplicity.
Silhouettes are streamlined and simplified or exaggereted through length and volume.
The elongated shape is a key direction in both slim-fitting and enveloping and
cocooning shapes for outerwear, tunic and dress shapes. A boxier shape plays to the
younger market for sweaters and throw-on outerwear pieces.
Comfort is the key. The head-to-toe knitwear look is expressed through noble yern
textures, elevated details and classic heritage stitches. Nowadays, the shopping
behaior of the consumers has changed too due to the economy, lifestyle and social
influences. Thus, the boundaries between day and eveningwear become increasingly
blurred as precious yarn updates and refined detailing elevate everyday styles.
MSGM THE UPSIDE
Menswear continues to play with the white washed colors and faded laundry
effect in the basic category. Printed textures, weathered motifs and engineered
ombre deliver the nostalgic, worn in feel. Comfort and utility remain key for jersey
items:vintage workwear influences give cut-and-sew items a functional, pared-back
feel, updated with soft and tactile yarn and pilling effects.
In terms of the silhouette, a retro fitted silhouette with a sartorial designer edge
underpins crew, polo and roll-neck styles: a luxe 1970s feel is prevalent. Cropped or
slim-fit shapes remain for layering pieces; see Gucci, Saint Laurent and Raf Simons.

LABEL: WOOD WOOD TONE
Shapes remain oversized and elongated for core outerwear and
loungewear, with layering important across all styles. Oversized and relaxed proportions inform hybrid sports and loungewear: a slouchy casual look is key for layered head-to-toe dressing, giving a directional twist to youthful fashion-led looks. Elongated lengths and rounded shapes add generosity to silhouette: heavier-gauge casual knitwear takes on an enveloping rounded appearance, and the longer shape underpins the roll-neck and crew tunic from previous seasons.
