MATTER• Objects that take up space
and have mass.• Ex:ICE,WATER,WOOD,PEOP
LE
MATTER-GAS•Matter has 3 states gas is
one.•When a solid or liquid is
heated it can turn into gas.•The particles move in no
order bumping into each other.
•Ex:CO2,Steam,Oxygen,CO,CC14
MATTER-LIQUID• Matter has 3 states liquid is one.• When a solid is heated it turns to a
liquid. When a gas is condenses it turns to a liquid.
• The particles move smoothly pass each other.
• Ex:water,ice tea,lemon juice,coke,hot chocolate.
MATTER-SOLID• Matter has 3 states solid is
one.• When a liquid freezes it
turns to solid ice. When a gas condenses then freezes
• The particles don't move around they just vibrate in place
• Ex:ice,wood,brick,laptop,table
Physical Properties
• Can be observed or measured without changing the chemical composition
• Ex:looking at ice,checking the mass of a rock,melting ice,ripping paper,and turing pages.
Chemical Properties• Is a property that you can observe
when one kind of matter is turned into a different kind of matter.
• Ex:rust on metal,cooking eggs,burning bread,making cupcakes,and baking a cake.
Physical Change• A change that affects the size,
shape, state of matter or color of a substance but does not affect its composition.
• Ex:cutting wood,ripping paper,painting wood,melting ice,and freezing water.
Chemical Change• During a chemical change,
substances are changed into different substances. In other words, the composition of the substance changes.
• Ex:rust on metal,fireworks,baking bread,roasting meat,and burning paper.
What Are Atoms?• Atoms are the basic building blocks of matter
that make up everyday objects. A desk, the air you breath.
• Atoms are made up of eletrons, neutrons, protons. The electrons are in the shells. The protons and neutrons make up the nucleus.
What Are Elements• An element is a substance that is made
entirely from one type of atom• Ex:gold is made up of gold
atoms, wood is od made from wood atoms, sliver is made up of silver atoms, metal is made up of metal atoms, and air is made up of air atoms
What Are Compounds
• A compound is made up of two or more types of elements that are chemically combined.
• Ex:water,soda,salt,sugar,andbaking powder.
Periodic Table• The periodic table is a table of the
chemical elements, showing the symbols for the elements, their full names, their atomic numbers and their mass number. It organizes them into groups and periods (columns and rows) based on their structure and properties. It is called "the periodic table" because the horizontal rows are called "periods".
What Are Substances?• A SUBSTANCE is a material that has
constant composition, regardless of its source, also said to be pure.
• This is opposed to an impure sample which would be called a MIXTURE
What Are Mixtures?• A mixture is a substance made by
combining two or more different materials in such a way that no chemical reaction occurs.
What Is A Heterogeneous Mixture?
• Is an uneven mixture of two or more substances.
• Ex:salad,salad dressing,colourful sprinkles,soup.
What Is A Homogeneous?• Is an even mixture• Ex:powder milk,powder
lemonade,powder kool-aid,ice cream,and chocolate milk.
What Are Solutions?
• A solutions A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. A solution may exist in any phase.
• a solute is a substance dissolved in another substance.
• A solvent (from the Latin solvō, “I loosen, untie, I solve”) is a liquid, solid, or gas that dissolves another solid, liquid, or gaseous solute,
What Is A Solubility• Solubility is the property of a solid, liquid, or
gaseous chemical substance called solute to dissolve in a solid, liquid, or gaseous solvent
