2000 structure structure (solids and liquids) D 2000 49 - 002 KCuM IV F 7 (M IV : Zr 4+ , Hf 4+ ), a New Type of Structure. The title compounds are prepared by heating mixtures of KF, CuF 2 , and ZrF 4 or HfF 4 , respectively (gold tube, 700 C, 3 weeks). KCuZrF 7 and KCuHfF 7 are isotypic and crystallize in the orthorhombic space group Cmcm with Z = 8, as revealed by single crystal XRD. Cu 2+ is coordinated by six F - ions forming a distorted octahedron. Zr 4+ is surrounded by eight F - forming a distorted cubic antiprism. The coordination number of potassium is 10. The CuF 6 octahedra and the ZrF 8 antiprisms both form chains along the [001] direction which are connected to layers perpendicular to [100] by sharing edges. — (KRAUS, M.; MUELLER, B. G.; Z. Anorg.
