KGaA, Weinheim www.cheminform.wiley-vch.de Pyran derivatives R 0340 A Facile One-Pot Green Synthesis and Antibacterial Activity of 2-Amino- -4H-pyrans and 2-Amino-5-oxo-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-4H-chromenes. — This envi- ronmentally benign synthesis of pyrans (IV) and tetrahydrochromenes (VI) proceeds under solvent-free conditions in the presence of magnesium oxide as catalyst affording the target compounds in good to very good yields. The catalyst can be reused for second and third consecutive cycles without significant loss in activity. Compounds (IVa), (IVd), (IVh) and (VIc)—(VIg) show complete inhibition of growth of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, but are four to eight times less active than ampicillin. — (KUMAR*, D.; REDDY, V.
