2. Process Creation (Chapter 4)3. Process Heuristics (Chapter 6)4. Plant Location and Layout
5. Environmental Considerations
6. Property Prediction Methods7. Mass and Energy Balances with Unisim (Chapter 5)
8. Separation Tower Design (Chapter 19)

10. Heat Exchanger Design (Chapter 18)11. Reactor Design (Chapter 7)
12. Design of Pumps, Compressors and Expanders (Chapter 20)
13. Teamwork and Reporting for the Plant Design Project
Assessment:
Numerical grades will be assigned as follows:
Pop quizzes: 22.5%
Midterm Exam: 22.5%Final Exam: 45%
Assignments: 10% of the overall course mark if the combined average of written exams
(midterm exam, final exam, and quizzes) is at least 55%. If the combined average of written exams
is less than 55%, then the assignments will be discounted from the final mark.
Notes:
- Academic dishonesty in assignments and laboratory reports (e.g., copying or lending your work for
copying by others) will result in a penalty of -10% on the total course grade for each offense.
- Evidence of academic dishonesty in examinations and quizzes will be prosecuted according to the
Code of Student Behaviour and Disciplinary Procedures (https://www.lakeheadu.ca/faculty-and-
staff/policies/student-related/code-of-student-behaviour-and-disciplinary-procedures).

- Short unannounced quizzes (up to 20 min) will be held during lecture and/or lab times. Any
unattended quiz will be given an automatic grade of zero. The grade obtained on your worst quiz will
be ignored in the calculation of your overall grade. There is substantial scientific evidencedemonstrating the benefits of unannounced quizzes on student performance (e.g.,
