thCHEMCON 2015, the 68 Annual Session of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers will be held at the

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, Assam during 27-30 December, 2015. The four-day event will

feature a host of events, including memorial lectures, plenary lectures, seminars, symposia, panel discussion,

exhibitions etc. World is possibly on the verge of third industrial revolution. It emphasizes on the bottom-up

approach to address challenges like protection of environment, adequacy in energy, and health and safety

issues. Thus, in addition to the existing practices, laboratory researches need to be strengthened and focused

more towards better and newer as well as cleaner and greener technologies that will set up a paradigm shift in

the industrial practices. Realization of the above lead to the unique theme of CHEMCON 2015 as ‘Chemical

Engineering: From Laboratory … to Industry’.

CHEMCON 2015

Started in 2002, the department is a major academic host offering all degree programmes such as B.Tech.,

M.Tech. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. The department offers Petroleum Science and Technology (PST)

and Materials Science and Technology (MST) as specializations in the masters degree course. The department

is actively pursuing high quality research, having received over thirty five crore rupees in funding for more

than one hundred sponsored research and consultancy projects. The department also houses the Centre of

Excellence for Sustainable Polymers funded by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Govt. of

India. Till date, faculty members in the department have collectively published more than 500 articles in

reputed international peer reviewed journals.

Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Guwahati

IIT Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The campus of IIT Guwahati is

on a sprawling 285 hectares plot of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 kms from the

heart of Guwahati city. IIT Guwahati has been ranked among the top 100 of the world's dynamic young

universities (under 50 years) by Times Higher Education (THE) magazine in 2014.

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati

Guwahati Regional Centre (GRC) is one of the most active regional centres of the Indian Institute of

Chemical Engineers (IIChE). GRC headquarter is located in the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT

Guwahati. The centre hosts several invited technical talks by eminent researchers from academia and

industry every year. The centre also arranges industry visits for students from time to time. The centre storganized 1 ever Student’s Chemical Engineering Congress (SCHEMCON) in the year 2005.
