1. DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
A. General
The external three frequency antenna is used in conjunction with the emergency locator equipment. It is a blade type with a radiating cavity. The three frequency antenna is a compact unit. Six 5,6 mm (0.22 in) diameter screws ground it. The radiation element is fully DC grounded.
The three frequency antenna for emergency locator equipment has the items that follow :
- an aviation aluminium alloy one piece base plate casting,
- a radiating element placed in a printed circuit that supports the coaxial cavities,
- a fibreglass laminated radome,
- a leading edge side coated with anti-erosion treatment,
- a close-cell polyurethane foam cavity-filling.

2. TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION
A. Functional check in the workshop (1) Direct current
- Measure the resistance between ground of the RF connector and ground plane, the value is < 20 m.
(2) RF current - Put the antenna in the centre of a 1 m x 2 m (39.37 in. x 78.74 in.) reflector plane.
- Drill some holes that have the same dimensions and are in the same position as the holes on the antenna.
- Safety the antenna. - Put the assembly in a position where there is not much radioelectric signal noise.
- Connect the antenna to a reflectometer with an approximately 3 m (118.11 in.) coaxial cable. The reflectometer must have a generator or an instrument to measure the reflection and must operate in the 100 to 500 MHz range.
- The reflector plane/antenna assembly is a large metal instrument. Keep it away from the reflectometer (minimum distance of 3 to 4 m (118.11 to 157.48 in.) from all sides).
- Calibrate the reflectometer. - The SWR must be less than 1.5.
