Everyone wants a ‘Hollywood Smile’ but not everyone is born with one. That’s where we come in! Equipped with the latest in dental technology, Chelsea Dental Clinic offers a range of smile makeover services to improve the look of your smile. From whitening services to a complete smile makeover with bonding and veneers — our specialised team takes a personalised approach to meet the cosmetic and functional needs of every patient. Combining creative vision with clinical skill, Chelsea Dental Clinic can produce extraordinary results.

Treatments available at the Chelsea Dental Clinic

• Six Month Smiles – A six-month treatment benefiting from aesthetic white coloured braces called Six Month Smiles. Six Month Smiles reduces orthodontic treatment time to 6 months by concentrating only on straightening teeth that are visible when smiling, performing a smile transformation on people who experience low self-esteem as a result of spaced, crooked or misaligned teeth.

• Inman Aligners – The perfect solution for crowding or protrusion of the front teeth. A fast and safe treatment, Inman Aligners offer great value for money compared to any other straightening system.

• Invisalign – Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment which uses a series of clear, removable teeth aligners. It is used instead of traditional fixed dental braces.

• Lingual Braces – In this type of orthodontic treatment, metal brackets are placed on the back of the tooth instead of the front surface. These are then able to carry out controlled movement of the teeth whilst remaining invisible.

• Cosmetic Dentistry with Lasers – The use of lasers in Cosmetic Dentistry has opened new doors for patients with minimally-invasive treatments and little to no recovery time. These small and precise devices seal as they go along – eliminating the need for stitches or blood, and provide outstanding results in the enhancement of your smile.

• Teeth Whitening – Discolouration or staining of the teeth caused by lifestyle choices can be improved by teeth whitening, and results are visible after 2 to 4 weeks.

• Veneers – Wafer-thin laminates of tooth coloured material that are cemented to the front surface of the teeth to immediately improve the aesthetic appearance and increase the confidence of the patient.

• Crowns & Bridges – Both crowns and most bridges are fixed prosthetic devices. Unlike removable devices such as dentures, which you can take out and clean daily, crowns and bridges are cemented onto existing teeth or implants, and can only be removed by a dentist.

• Dental Bonding – A wonderful option for when only a small change is required, dental bonding can easily close gaps, smooth chips and hide small areas of discolouration.

• Dental Implants – Replacing missing teeth or dentures.

Chelsea Dental Clinic is excited to be offering Six Month Smiles, which is a clear (almost invisible), short term orthodontic system. This system is based on the braces orthodontic treatment, which is globally recognised as the gold standard for orthodontics.

How does it work?

The Six Month Smiles system straightens your teeth by applying brackets onto the surface of your teeth. Flexible wires are then placed through these brackets. Light forces are put on the wires and this is what helps your teeth to straighten. Monthly appointments are required for your dentist to adjust these light forces, which ensure your teeth continue to straighten over your treatment period.

What are the benefits of using Six Month Smiles?

What makes Six Month Smiles so great is that it utilises the braces orthodontic system however instead of placing metal brackets on your teeth, Six Month Smiles uses clear brackets and teeth coloured wires. This is what provides the almost invisible appearance of your orthodontic system.

Adult patients seeking to straighten their teeth quickly, but discreetly, often prefer this method and have found it to be much less invasive on their appearance. Six Month Smiles are ideal for adults who have crooked teeth, spaces between their teeth, crowding or are otherwise looking to increase their confidence by improving their smile.

Straightening your teeth has also shown to optimise oral health. This is because your teeth may be easier to clean when they are no longer crowded together or crooked.

How long does it take?

Six Month Smiles takes an average of 6 months to complete (hence the name). However, some patients with more complex cases may take slightly longer. Your dentist can assess this during your consultation.

What can I expect from my initial consultation?

At your first consultation you and your dentist will discuss what you are looking to achieve through Six Month Smiles. Your dentist will assess your suitability and inform you of how long the procedure is likely to take and what you can expect during the process. Should you wish to go ahead with the treatment, your dentist will take pictures and an impression of your teeth in order to assess your progress over the course of your orthodontic treatment.

What happens after I have completed my Six Month Smiles treatment?

After your Six Month Smiles treatment has been completed, you will need to wear retainers to maintain the new position of your teeth. These may be removable or fixed or both. Your dentist will advise you on how long and how often you will need to wear these.

Cosmetic Dentistry With Lasers Cosmetic Dentistry has come a long way in recent years. While procedures of the past involved invasive scalpels with stitches and long recovery periods – precise Laser procedures have changed all that.

Patients can relax in the knowledge that their smile goals can be achieved without enduring painful recovery periods or multiple procedures. Lasers have the ability to seal the affected area as they go along, making stitches obsolete and enabling patients to return to their normal routine quickly and easily.

Whether you’re after a smile with “less gum”, help with stubborn canker sores, or treatment for periodontal disease – laser technology is the way forward.

Laser Crown Lengthening

This minimally invasive treatment enables a lengthening of the tooth or bone in specific dental situations where a tooth has been broken at the gum line. This technique utilises a soft tissue laser to precisely reshape the gum tissue exposing more tooth structure for a new restoration to grab onto.

Laser Crown Lengthening in conjunction with a Porcelain crown will remedy the situation to the best possible aesthetic in as little as one or two visits with minimal healing time.

Laser Frenectomy & Tongue Tie

Frenums are small muscles that exist in the upper and lower lip as well as under the tongue. Unfortunately, sometimes if the muscle is too strong it can pull on the gingival tissue causing recession of the gums, or if it is not strong enough it can create space between the teeth. Having a Laser Frenectomy can release the

muscle and help preserve the potentially affected areas.

A tongue tie (Ankyloglossia) is a piece of tissue that connects just under the tip of your tongue with the base of your mouth and can dramatically affect your ability to speak, eat, or properly maintain your oral hygiene. Luckily a tongue-tie can be easily remedied using a minimally invasive laser.

Both the Frenectomy and laser tongue-tie are minimal procedures with very little pain or recovery time. Most patients describe the affected area as feeling like a canker sore, which of course goes away within a few days.

Laser Gummy Smile Lift

Laser contouring is an excellent option if you are looking to get rid of a “gummy smile.” This non-surgical advanced method for shaping and changing the gum tissue around the teeth creates an aesthetically pleasing shape for your smile.

Traditional dentistry would have involved a scalpel and stitches, however the laser is able to seal as it goes along – correcting problem areas with no bleeding and very minimal recovery.

Laser contouring can be used for a full smile or even on just one tooth. There is typically very little maintenance required and it usually only requires one visit. We often see patients combine this treatment with Porcelain Veneers or Professional Teeth Whitening to maximise aesthetic results.

Laser Lip Drop

The frenum muscle is under the upper lip and helps move the lip into position for both smile and rest. However some people have a very strong frenum, which doesn’t allow their lips to touch – making for a “gummy” or “toothy” smile.

The Laser Lip Drop is used to correct the frenum for those whose lips do not touch together while at rest. This incredible new treatment requires very minimal freezing and can usually be completed in just one visit. Most cases are very successful in combination with therapy.

Additionally, the frenum can pull gum tissue away from the teeth causing a recession and leaving gaps between the teeth. This soft tissue laser can be used again to laser the frenum and relax the muscle so it does not pull on these vulnerable areas.

Laser Pocked Reduction

Periodontal disease (Gum disease) is an infection in the gums and bone surrounding the teeth and accounts for the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy is a new non-surgical way to treat periodontal disease. While traditional methods of treatment involved scalpels, stitches and blood – laser treatment provides minimal discomfort with little or no recovery time. Patients can typically return to their normal routine and even eat afterwards.

Laser treatments combined with hygiene visits will allow your gum tissues to try and reattach and become healthy and strong again.

Ulcer & Canker Sore Relief

Lasers are a fast and effective way of sterilising ulcers, canker sores and cold sores. The lasers are able to zap away pain-causing bacteria and sterilise the sore – ultimately speeding up healing time.

Many patients will be happy to find that after just one laser treatment, they produce fewer lesions in the future. Additionally, the treatment is very comfortable, requires no freezing and can be completed in 30 minutes.

Orthodontics is a specialised branch of dentistry that focuses on the development of your face, teeth and jaw to achieve optimal function and aesthetics. In addition to creating a dazzling smile, orthodontic treatment improves the overall health of your teeth, by changing the way they bite together and enabling easier cleaning.

Orthodontic treatment often involves using fixed or removable braces to gently move your teeth into the optimal position. While braces of the past might have been clunky and unsightly, the latest braces are now more advanced than ever, with discreet clear options allowing you to choose one that suits your lifestyle.

Here at Chelsea Dental Clinic, we are committed to using the most modern and advanced technology, all aimed towards the well being of patients and the most efficient procedures for our orthodontic braces treatments.

What does orthodontic treatment involve?

Orthodontics use devices such as a brace to correct the position of the teeth – the exact method of treatment is determined by the exact problem.

• Fixed Braces – The most common type of orthodontic brace. Most patients require the use of fixed orthodontic appliances to achieve straight teeth and the best possible smile.

• Six Month Smiles – Six Month Smiles utilises a barely visible system with clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires to gently straighten and align teeth in an average time of just six months.

• Lingual Braces / Hidden Braces – These braces are different to others as they are fitted to the inside of the teeth. This makes lingual braces completely invisible and is ideal for those who require orthodontic treatment but do not wish to compromise their appearance.

• Removable Braces – A plastic base with custom-made metal wire components. The brace simply clips onto the teeth, and can be easily fitted or removed. The Inman Aligner is nearly invisible. It works by applying a gentle pressure on your teeth, gradually moving them into the correct position. Additionally it is removable and has a shorter than average straightening time.

• Clear Removable Aligners – Visually, it is similar to a sports mouthguard however thinner and transparent. Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable teeth aligners. It can be used instead of traditional fixed dental braces.

• Functional Appliance – A functional brace that is worn on the upper and lower teeth at the same time in order to correct the way upper and lower teeth fit over each other.

• Retainers – Appliances that maintain and hold the alignment of the teeth and the improvement of the bite after the completion of active orthodontic treatment.

Active treatment time with orthodontic braces typically ranges from six months to two years – however the exact duration depends on the growth of the patient’s mouth and face, the individual’s biological response to the brace, the severity of the problem and the cooperation of the patient.

Here at Chelsea Dental Clinic, we offer the latest treatments and techniques to ensure the beautiful, healthy smiles of our patients. However, we understand that patients are sometimes concerned about undergoing treatment due to fears of painful or nerve-racking procedures involving drills. This is why whenever possible we employ minimally invasive treatments, which provide added comfort for our patients all the while yielding incredible results.

Hygiene Treatment

While Hygiene Treatment is usually quite minimally invasive to begin with - some patients still unfortunately find it overwhelming. To combat this worry we also offer Prophyflex. This treatment utilises high water pressure in conjunction with air and polish powder to remove stains caused by certain foods and drinks. For optimal results, it can be used in addition to a regular hygiene treatment session, or it can be used on it’s own if preferred.

Componeers and Non-Prep Veneers

Componeers are a prefabricated composite veneer system. Unlike porcelain veneers, which require several visits to the dental office and invasive tooth preparation, Componeers are available quickly and easily without a lab. These thin veneer coatings are merely 0.3 mm and can be customised in surgery to each individual patient.

Non-prep veneers are ideal for patients who desire the look of porcelain veneers but without the invasive preparation (such as numbing or drills). It is a particularly strong option for those with smaller teeth or undesired gaps. Each individual case will always be assessed by the dentist for suitability.

Replacement of Missing Teeth: Resin Retained Bridge

Resin retained bridges are an excellent option for the replacement of a single missing tooth. Unlike a standard bridge, a resin-retained bridge does not require the preparation of neighbouring teeth. The false ceramic tooth locates into the space of the absent tooth and is held in place by a metal wing connected to the back of either the neighbouring teeth. Like with all treatments, the dentist will assess individual suitability.

Orthodontics

We offer several impressive and minimally invasive options when it comes to Orthodontics. These include Six month Smiles, Inman Aligner, and Lingual Braces among others.

Bonding

The process of Bonding utilises a composite resin material, which is glued to the tooth. The resin is tooth coloured and can be used to repair chips in teeth, close small gaps, alter the shape of teeth or cover over marks and discolourations. This treatment is quick to do, can be undone if wanted, and does not adversely affect the teeth underneath.

Whitening

Everyone longs for a dazzling white smile, but unfortunately not all of us were born with it. Luckily, we offer a variety of options in whitening services to meet the needs, wants and budgets of our individual patients.

We also offer Internal whitening for non-vital teeth. This whitening process is only for teeth that have darkened internally likely due to root canal treatment or the need for root canal treatment.

Dental implants offer a permanent solution to tooth loss – whether it be for a single missing tooth or an entire missing set.

What is a tooth implant?

A dental implant is an artificial root replacement fashioned from a metal rod that is used to support one or more false teeth. This popular and comfortable option replaces missing teeth, which have been removed due to injury, disease or decay.

Over several months, your jawbone will fuse with the rod at which point dentures, crowns or bridges can be attached to the implant to replace your missing teeth.

Advantages of Dental Implants

Aesthetically, dental implants most closely resemble your natural teeth and are unnoticeable to others. In addition, they are extremely reliable — implants are a permanent fixture (being fused to the patient’s jawbone) and with sufficient care the implant should never need replacing.

Lastly, the implant does not require other teeth to be reduced, ensuring more of the patient’s own teeth remain intact, with benefits to the long-term dental health of the patient.

Criteria for Dental implants

• General good health

• Good, healthy gums

• Enough bone to form the foundation for the procedure

• Good oral hygiene

• Regular dental visits

What types of ‘implant treatment’ are available?

• Single Dental Implant

• Multiple Dental Implants

• Full Arch Restoration – all teeth missing

• All on 4 / All on 6

• Dentures Supported by Implants

Dental implants have many advantages in comparison to other tooth replacement treatments; however, as with any procedure there are some risks and disadvantages any patient must consider.

Risks and Disadvantages

A dental implant treatment can be more intrusive than other treatments and preparing the bone for an implant is risky. Blood vessels, nerves and other healthy teeth and their roots have to be avoided so in some respects positioning is limited.

Dental Implants

N.B Due to the invasive nature of preparing an implant site, hygiene is extremely important. Neglected oral health, smoking or bad diet on the part of the patient can lead to failed treatments followed by bone damage – making further treatments very difficult or even impossible.

Stabilising the jawbone after tooth loss is important for providing aesthetically stable support for facial structure as well as dental implants. In the unfortunate event that teeth have to be extracted, we always recommend an immediate socket bone graft. This is the addition of bone graft into the hole left behind by the extracted tooth. This is to preserve the bone volume of the site, which would otherwise shrink in the area of the missing tooth. Socket bone grafts must always be performed immediately following the extraction.

Why Have Socket Bone Graft?

For a future implant - A socket bone graft immediately following an extraction will preserve the bone height and bone quality of the jaw. This is necessary because implants need enough bone height to provide a suitable length of implant in the bone and good quality bone so that the implant will be held securely.

To maintain face structure - If the socket left behind by the extracted tooth is not filled with bone graft material, the bone in that area will begin to shrink. After several years, as the bone shrinks more significantly, it will no longer be able to hold the structure of the face. This will eventually create a sunken appearance in the face.

Periodontal disease - Bone graft material can also be used in cases of periodontal (gum) disease. Gum disease can cause the bone in the jaw around the tooth to become infected and occasionally shrink. Once treated and the infection has been removed, this area will require graft material to stabilise the loose tooth. Occasionally, the treatment of this will also require the removal of bone, which may then also require a graft to secure the tooth in place and prevent tooth loss.

Patient’s Tooth as Bone Graft

Here at Chelsea Dental Clinic, we use advanced equipment that enables us to extract a patients tooth and then immediately turn it into strong and supportive bone graft material.

This graft material is considered superior to others due to its stronger-than-bone capability, creating a more stable bone volume. The process is simple and straightforward - as the same person both provides and receives the graft. The only tooth that cannot be used in this process is the

one that has had root canal treatment.

The tooth, once it has been turned into graft material, can be used for filling sockets after tooth extractions, jawbone augmentation, filling of bone defects and for supporting implants.

The tooth is transformed into a graft with 4 simple steps - and after completion, the new graft material is ready for use.

1. The tooth is manually cleaned

2. The tooth is grinded in the dentin grinder

3. The grinded tooth is sorted

4. Sterilisation of the product

At this point the graft can either be immediately used or if the new socket area does not require a graft, it can be stored for the patient for future use.

Other Types of Bone Graft Material

Irradiated allogenic cancellous bone and marrow from a human donor.
