The Green Corner NASCAR Weekend is always one of the biggest events of the year on the Las Vegas calendar, as tens of thousands of race fans descend on Las Vegas Motor Speedway in February to watch drivers square off in the Sam’s Town 300 and the Shelby American Sprint Cup race. This year’s event packed an even bigger punch, with Danica Patrick competing in the Sam’s Town 300. Patrick is an accomplished open-wheel racer whose debut in the Nationwide series has been widely anticipated. She is the first woman to lead the Indy 500 and the first to win an Indy Car event. After a rain delay, the cars took to the track. Danica had a strong start and ran as high as third. She later crashed into the outer wall, after her car was clipped by Michael McDowell and the two spun out. The race was the second circuit stop of her debut in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Congress recently passed legislation to bring about the most comprehensive changes in health care in American history. When it has all taken effect, this new law will change health care for nearly all of us.

It will take awhile before the full impact of these changes is known. There are a lot of details to be worked out. In the meantime, Boyd Gaming remains committed to providing quality health care for our employees.

Boyd Gaming will monitor events, follow the law, and do everything we can to keep you informed. In the meantime, keep these points in mind:

There will be no immediate impact on our health care benefits structure.

The changes required by national health care will be phased in over five years. Many of them may not affect Boyd Gaming dramatically.

We intend to make sure employees continue to receive quality health care in the years ahead.

As we learn more details, we will share them with you.

Among the thousands of changes expected to come about in the next few years, here are a few that may take effect January 1, 2011:

In certain situations, covered employees may be able to continue to cover their dependents, up to the age of 26, under Boyd Benefits.

Reimbursements for over-the-counter medications will no longer be allowed under the Flexible Spending Accounts.

There will no longer be lifetime dollar limits on benefits.

What is the purpose of the Company’s annual report?

As a publicly-traded company, Boyd Gaming’s financial records are public information. The details of our business performance are reported fully on a regular basis, as required by law, through both an Annual Report and documents called 10-Ks and 10-Qs, filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Generally speaking, we report financial results four times a year (quarterly), and include year-end results in the first report of the following year. We produce an Annual Report every spring and distribute it to shareholders. The report is a comprehensive summary of our business for the prior year. We include our revenues, expenses, and profit, reported in detail for each property and business unit. We discuss management strategy, potential opportunities and risks for the business. In addition, we provide descriptions of our properties and a list of our Board of Directors.

All of this information can be found on our corporate website boydgaming.com.

hq&aWhat happens at the annual meeting?

The Annual meeting is an opportunity for people who have invested in the Company to meet our top executives and Board of Directors in person, and to ask them questions or make

suggestions. It is also when shareholders vote to elect the Board of Directors, and on other issues that may require shareholder approval, such as affirming our selection of outside auditors.

For Boyd Gaming, the Annual meeting is a very important chance for us to meet directly with our shareholders. I always get to the meeting very early, and make a point to visit personally with as many of our shareholders as I can. This year’s meeting will be on may 20 at Blue Chip Hotel Casino Spa.

I believe the way we treat people is one of the things that sets this company apart. We believe everyone — customers, employees, investors, communities and competitors — deserves to be treated with kindness, candor and respect. It is the way we live our lives, it is the way we conduct our business, and it is a very important part of “Boyd Style.”

Nobody knows our business better than you, so we went straight to the source for answers. Nearly 13,000 employees “told it to us straight” in the Employee Opinion Survey (EOS) completed in October. The results are positive and demonstrate that the actions taken as a result of the 2008 EOS have made Boyd Gaming an even better place to work.

Compared to other gaming companies (based on data from HR Solution’s client base), Boyd Gaming employees are 6 percent more satisfied with their jobs. That’s a score we can all be proud of!

Property action plans developed after the 2008 EOS provided a road map for improvement that led to positive changes throughout the Company. That hard work resulted in increased scores in 2009. Here are some highlights to celebrate:

Benefits satisfaction increased by 20 percent.

Communication scored 13 percent above the national norm.

“When compared to other gaming companies in the community, Boyd Gaming is a good place to work;” increased by 7 percent.

“The property devotes an appropriate amount of resources to serving its customers;” resulted in a score 31 percent above the national norm.

“I am provided the tools, supplies and resources needed to perform my job;” rated 29 percent above national norm.

Feedback from the 2009 EOS provides new areas for improvement. Here are some opportunity areas for our 2010 action plans:

“My supervisor used the feedback from the last EOS to make positive changes in my work group.”

“My supervisor recognizes team members for a job well done.”

“Senior property management frequently visits my department.”

Stay tuned to property communication and future Boyd Buzz newsletters for progress updates throughout the year.

The Boyd family has a long history of giving back to their community through charitable contributions, business leadership, and other efforts. They’ve done so not for recognition, but because they understand the importance of building strong communities. Still, in appreciation of their many contributions, several Nevada organizations have recently recognized the Boyds with special honors.

In December, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada renamed its Henderson facility on Moser Drive the Mary and Sam Boyd Boys & Girls Club in honor of their dedication and support of the Boys & Girls Clubs movement in Nevada for more than 50 years.

Joining his son, Bill, Sam was also named one of the 2010 Nevada Business Hall of Fame inductees, a distinction bestowed by the College of Business at University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) as a tribute to motivated business leaders that make Nevada their destination of choice.

Bill Boyd was recently honored during the 30th annual UNLV Foundation dinner, when new members were inducted into the foundation’s Palladium Society. Each tier of the society showcases donors who have surpassed a certain level of monetary giving. Bill was inducted to the Palladium Diamond Society, which recognizes individuals who have given at least $10 million to the university.

Keith Smith Chairs Industry Board In December, the American Gaming Association (AGA) board of directors elected Keith Smith, President and CEO of Boyd Gaming, to serve as chairman of the organization. Keith first joined the AGA board in 2007 and served as vice chairman for 2009.

“The coming year promises to bring both challenges and opportunities, and I am confident that Keith and the vice chair, Richard Haddrill, will steer us in the right direction,” said Frank Fahrenkopf, President and CEO of the AGA.

The AGA represents the commercial casino-entertainment industry by addressing federal legislative and regulatory issues. It also serves as a clearinghouse for information, develops educational and advocacy programs, and provides leadership on industry-related issues of public concern.

Here’s mud in your eye. That may be a funny toast to share with friends, but actually getting something in your eye is no laughing matter. Every day about 2,000 people suffer a job-related eye injury that requires medical treatment, according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The majority of these injuries result from small particles or objects striking the eye.

Eye protection is required by all employees in areas where eye hazards are present. In our industry, eye protection can guard against the hazards of flying particles, liquid chemicals, acid or caustic chemicals, gases or vapors, and light radiation. Side shields, goggles or face shields may be required in some instances. All safety eye protection must meet American National Standard Institute (ANSI) requirements. Standard prescription glasses or sunglasses are not sufficient protection unless they are identified as meeting the ANSI requirements for safety glasses.

Don’t wait until it’s too late. Contact your property Safety Manager or Supervisor to know what your department’s eye protection requirements are. It’s better than a sharp stick in the eye.

For many years, LGT Advertising has served as the in-house agency for the Coast Casinos properties within Boyd Gaming. In 2009, the group changed its name to Boyd Creative Services (BCS) to better reflect the ever-growing range of properties and projects serviced by this internal group.

Located at The Orleans, the 19-member department provides a variety of creative support services. As an internal group, BCS is a cost-effective way to serve multiple properties in multiple ways.

Services include design work on a broad range of print advertising and electronic media, as well as the coordination and administrative work for such projects. The team also handles scheduling, placement and billing of advertising, including print, broadcast and outdoor media. In addition, BCS is responsible for the placement of broadcast advertising for the Midwest and South Region properties.

“BCS enables properties to develop advertising and marketing programs with shorter timelines and smaller budgets” said Brian Shultz, Vice President of Marketing for Boyd Gaming.

Great food can be a great motivator, and fun foods promote fun attitudes. That’s why Sam’s Town Shreveport regularly celebrates national food days (like National Blueberry Pancake Day, National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day and National Spaghetti Day), as well as offers up delicious foods from around the world including Cuba, Mexico and Asia. Bon appetit!

Par-A-Dice recently presented two community organizations with contributions to support their programs. It donated $5,000 to Children’s Home, which offers behavioral health services programs; and $10,000 to Neighborhood House, which provides

comprehensive services that meet the social, emotional and material needs of individuals and families from infancy to the elderly.

The Par-A-Dice Elf Squad delivered presents to 25 families in the community in collaboration with the Tri-County Urban League. Property team members donated toys, as well as gift cards to help out with groceries. Santa and his elves hand delivered the gifts the week before Christmas. The Tri-County Urban League also was presented with a $5,000 donation.

In January, Delta Downs presented ZYDEFEST® VI, the most popular Zydeco Music Festival in the region. Zydeco music stars Brian Jack, Curley Taylor, Leon Chavis and Step Rideau kept more than 1,200 guests dancing in the Delta Event Center from 3:00 p.m. until midnight.

Dania Jai-Alai hosted the Arcade and Pinball Expo in January. With more than 300 playable pinball and arcade games, this was one of the largest collections of classic machines gathered in one place. The memorable Gottlieb and Williams pinball machines, Pacman, Ms. Pacman, baseball, bowling, and skeeball were all available for play.

The Delta Downs 2010 United Way campaign was a great success, with employees pledging more than $55,500. Way to go!

The Green CornerBoyd Gaming’s Las Vegas-area properties are doing their share to support water conservation through the Southern nevada Water Authority’s (SnWA) Linen Exchange program. The program is simple and free of charge. Participants agree to only change linens and towels once every three days during a guest’s stay unless otherwise requested. It helps save water, and it helps the Company’s bottom line, as well.

Laundry costs for a hotel can drop as much as 30 percent through the program, according to SnWA, helping reduce operating costs by one dollar per occupied room per day. The average water savings of washing linens and towels every three days is about 50 gallons per room each day. Valuable time is also saved by the housekeeping staff, which no longer automatically changes all the sheets and towels for each room every day.

Boyd Gaming’s midwest and South Region properties have been participating in a similar program to conserve water in their communities, as well.
