Dear Friends,

There is much uncertainty at the moment as we approach Easter. Where are we to turn? I came across this quote.

Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones said, 'Though you are one of the teeming millions in this world, and though the world would have you believe that you do not count and that you are but a speck in the mass, God says, 'I know you.' How wonderful is that? Take a moment and consider the things in life that rob us of self-esteem. Words such as, 'I don't want you; I don't love you anymore.' Or 'You're unsuitable for the job; sorry, we have to let you go.' Or, 'You keep making the same stupid mistakes. You'll never get it right.' Or, 'Why can't you be like your brother, or your sister, or so-and-so?' Understand this: 1) Your self-esteem cannot be based on what you do for a living. Because when you can no longer do it you'll feel worthless. Think about some of the famous people you know: athletes, artists, speakers, etc. When they can no longer do what they do they often get depressed, even suicidal. 2) Your self-esteem cannot be based on what you own. Recently the U.S. housing market lost up to 40% of its value in one year. Millions of people saw their social status go down and their financial security go up in smoke. 3) Your self-esteem cannot be based on other people's opinion because it will always make you vulnerable to rejection. What's the solution? Discover what God thinks about you and build your life on it. '...thus says the Lord, who created you...who...redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.'(Isaiah 43:1 NKJV) It doesn't get any better than that!

Something to reflect on this Easter. See you in church.

God bless Chris ~~~~~

Chedzoy Preschool From Pat Davies

http://www.chedzoypreschool.org.uk

Using the outside space, having fun and showing some excellent throwing and aiming skills!

Recently the management committee sent a questionnaire to parents and we were pleased to report the feedback was all positive – with 100% of the respondents being happy to recommend us. Our staff team of 7 are extremely well thought of and the children have fun in a staff and stimulating environment. Most people start attending based on the recommendations of friends or family, so thanks to any of you who continue to recommend us! Parents find the toddler group a useful stepping stone to their children attending the preschool itself and though the preschool is full for this academic year, there are places at the toddler group on a Monday or Thursday. Places are currently available at the Preschool from September 2011.

St. GEORGE’S DAY CELEBRATION 2011 from John Weeks

Once again, Chedzoy celebrated Burns' Night in fine style. Arranged by the Zoy Villages Twinning Association, over seventy people sat down in the village hall for a traditional meal of haggis, tatties and neeps, served below the saltire - which took pride of place - the hall itself being decorated with a blue and white motif. After the meal, the floor was quickly cleared so that everyone could take part in Scottish dancing, which was called by Sue Horsham: because of illness and injuries the Sedgemoor Scottish Dancers were unable to put on their usual exhibition, but those attending joined in to lead bewildered residents through the steps. A great time was had by all. At the end of the evening it was announced that, with great sadness, this will be the last such supper under the present regime. Maureen Weeks and her team have arranged everything for the last twelve years and, with the team - not to mention the dancers who have attended every year - all getting older, this seemed to be a suitable time to finish. Of course, if someone else wants to take over next year . . . . . Sincere thanks to Maureen and the team for such an enjoyable evening, which raised over £500 for the Zoy Villages Twinning Association. This will be used to help with costs when friends from Val d'Ille, Brittany next visit in August, or to subsidise travel to France by local children. For further information about twinning and French classes please contact Maureen Weeks on 451 444 or Jon Beale on 691 091.

CHEDZOY LADIES from Secretary, Avril Johnson

The year 2010 went out with a popular Bring & Share Supper, which – as usual – was a great evening. Unfortunately, for the second year running the weather caught up with us later, and we had to cancel our January 2011 meeting. Despite this, we made

up for it in February, when Pat Earnshaw and Tony Condon came and spoke to us about the running and compilation of Polden Post. We learned that what started as a straightforward village news sheet has grown into a sophisticated publication with a circulation of over 3,000 copies each month. If you would like to receive the magazine, or wish to have an item included, then our contact man is Malcolm Friend on 428 641, and Pat and Tony advised that they were very keen to receive news items from Chedzoy. Our March meeting was/will be on 8th March, and takes the form of a Pancake Supper – so do come along and enjoy pancakes with your favourite filling. Remember Ladies, everyone is welcome, so do give us a try, even if you can only attend every so often. Our forthcoming ‘2nd Tuesday of the month’ Programme:

March 8th – Pancake Supper

April 12 th - Beetle Drive & Easter Egg competition

May 10th - ‘Hanging Basket’ – with Mike Horriben

June 14th - To be advised ~~~~~

BULKY WASTE COLLECTIONS IN SOMERSET

Furniture Reuse Groups Instead of throwing unwanted furniture and household appliances away, you can arrange to have suitable items collected and re-used by local furniture reuse projects. Furniture and appliances collected by these groups are provided at low cost to members of the community on low incomes. Only reusable furniture and appliances can be accepted, although in some cases minor repairs can be undertaken. For further information on your local Furniture Reuse Group go to: http://www.recyclesomerset.info/pages/Furniture_reuse.asp. Items that are not suitable for reuse can be collected by your local District or Borough Council through a Bulky Waste Collection. Bulky Waste Collection If you have an item that is too large to be taken with your refuse and recycling collections and you have no means of taking it to a recycling centre, then you can request a bulky waste collection. This is a charged-for service and payment is required for each collection.

You can request a bulky waste collection service for most household items that are too big for you to manage, however if it is an unusual item, like an old fuel tank, then it may not be practical for us to collect it. In these cases please get in touch with us so we can advise you on the most suitable option. This will save you the time and inconvenience of arranging the collection only to be told by the crew that your item cannot be taken.

Bulky waste charges for 2011/12 are as follows: Up to 3 items: - £36.50 Subsequent items: - £8.00

Please note that there is a maximum number of 5 items per collection.

If you wish to arrange a bulky waste collection, please contact Sedgemoor District on 0845 408 2543.

CHEDZOY PLAYING FIELD ASSOCIATION From Sarah Bunney

The Chedzoy Playing Field Association has worked very hard throughout the years to maintain the village playing field and organise events such as the Chedzoy Flower Show, the Hallowe’en Party, and the summer picnic in the field. We aim to continue this work but.....

Your village needs your help!

Our village playing field is in desperate need of repair and some equipment. At the moment all we have are some swings, a slide and one piece of balancing equipment. All of which require maintenance.

A lot of people go outside the village to use the “better equipped” play parks rather than our own. This is sad because we have a lovely community and could potentially have a park to be proud of for the children to play in. As a village we are also missing out on opportunities to promote ourselves. Somerset Playing Field Association holds the annual “Field of the Year Awards”. Wouldn’t it be lovely for Chedzoy to be nominated as Playing Field of the Year?

Our main aim at the moment is to raise as much money as we can so we can purchase some new/modern equipment for the playing field. However, this equipment does not come cheap and we really need your help to raise funds.

We want to involve our local children and gather as many ideas as possible about what children want from their playing field. We are holding a drawing competition for all local children to design a play area. There will be three prize categories, under 5 years, 6-10 years and 11 years and over. The deadline for the competition is Wednesday 6th April 2011, the date of our AGM. We will be in the village hall from 7:30 pm to receive any entries.

On Easter Monday, April 25th 2011, we are holding an Easter Egg hunt at the village hall. Whilst we will primarily have activities for the local children we will also be serving teas, coffee and cake and welcome everyone to attend. We will also be presenting the prizes to the winners of the drawing competition. Please look out for posters advertising this event nearer the time.

Finally, a few of our talented gentlemen in the village have volunteered their services to help design and build some wooden play equipment. If you would like to help or have any ideas for the playing field we would love to hear from you. You can either come to our AGM, Easter Egg hunt or contact me (Sarah Bunney) direct on 434123.

~~~~~~
PATCHWORK GROUP from Avril Johnson
We have had quite a long break over the winter months, but we started stitching again on Wednesday 2nd March, at 2:30 pm in the village hall, and will be meeting every Wednesday from now on.
Our current project if a group quilt, which we hope to have finished in time for it to be raffled – with the winner drawn at the Harvest Supper.
If you would like to join us, we would be delighted to see you, even if you are a complete patchwork beginner at the moment. Spending a couple of hours sitting and sewing – and chatting – with friends is the ultimate relaxation. Come and give it a ‘go’ – we do have great fun !
CHEDZOY VILLAGE HALL from Richard Lennard
I am very pleased to report that the Hall this last year has had a substantial increase in bookings which bodes well for the future.
Bookings are coming in from people who are not residents of the Village, mainly as a result of the very good website - a tribute to the good auspices of Don Johnson, whose expertise in this field is without parallel. For the coming year we have taken bookings for five wedding receptions; innumerable children's parties; a toy dog show from a lady living in Havant; a Church Meeting from Taunton; and a booking made for January 2012.
The field has been very well looked after by Jim Clapp, with regular cutting every four weeks, and Roy Beal has been cutting the front and side areas.
My thanks also have to go to the entire Committee for their sterling work in keeping the hall ‘Shipshape and Bristol Fashion.’ Also, special thanks to our Treasurer, Mrs Carole Edmunds, for keeping us on the straight and narrow financially. The only downside is the decision by EFD to charge us an extra 20% for electricity as we are classed as a business, i.e. we rent the Hall out, so in their eyes we are thus classified. Iniquitous - to say the least - but no doubt the Treasurer will have more to say on this matter.
As people may be aware, Mrs Valerie Fry had a nasty fall before Christmas and broke her wrist, since then I have been taking all the bookings. We wish her well.
