Once again, changes to the way schools will be funded next year will mean we will have some challenges ahead. Assuming we have no large changes in anticipated enrolments, this should be the class structure with which we commence the 2015 school year: Please be aware that this structure is in draft only and could change up to the start of 2015. 2015 CLASS PLACEMENT REQUESTS To provide parents with the opportunity to input to the best class placement for their child(ren) next year, I invite you to submit a placement request to me in writing (e-mail or letter) by Friday 28th November 2014. Please note that class placement requests can only be for educational (eg: split or straight grade), social or emotional reasons only. Requests for specific teachers will not be considered. While all efforts will be made to support parents requests, the school reserves the right to make the final decision based upon the best interests of the child and the school. BUSHFIRE SAFETY INFORMATION As we approach the Bushfire season all parents need to be fully aware of the processes the school follows in a bushfire situation. To explain these processes, I have enclosed the school’s Bushfire Safety Information brochure with this newsletter for all families. Parents are asked to read this information so that you are fully aware of our plans and processes in the event of a declaration of a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating. Parents are also reminded that in the event of such an emergency, the school will contact you via SMS. It is therefore vital that you update your mobile contact details if changed recently. BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE 2015 I am very pleased to announce that the school has reached an agreement with the Camp Australia company to provide a before and after school care program at Mundaring Primary School from the start of the 2015 school year. This is great news for the school and will provide a much needed service to our families. Camp Australia will provide a full service to families who require daily before and after school care as well as occasional care for parents needing to access the service on a less regular basis. In order to provide prospective parents with detailed information about this new service, a Parent Information Session will be held at 3:15pm on Wednesday 5 th November in the school library. The session will be presented by representatives of the Camp Australia group and include details including times, costs and of course the program itself. If you are not able to attend this meeting, I am more than happy to answer any questions you might have and we are able to provide links to the Camp Australia website and telephone number. CLASS STRUCTURE FOR 2015 Parents are advised that based upon the current anticipated enrolments for next year, we have developed the following class structure. Once again, changes to the way schools will be funded next year will mean we will have some challenges ahead.

Assuming we have no large changes in anticipated enrolments, this should be the class structure with which we commence the 2015 school year:

Please be aware that this structure is in draft only and could change up to the start of 2015. 2015 CLASS PLACEMENT REQUESTS To provide parents with the opportunity to input to the best class placement for their child(ren) next year, I invite you to submit a placement request to me in writing (e-mail or letter) by Friday 28th November 2014.

While all efforts will be made to support parents requests, the school reserves the right to make the final decision based upon the best interests of the child and the school.

LITERACY TIP Another way of promoting story comprehension is to use comments to communicate what you are thinking: “I’m thinking that…………”, “I wonder……………….” “Why do you think………..?” “It’s a bit hard for me to understand why…………..”. Wait a little while for your child to organise their thoughts so they might respond if they wish. Understanding that everyone does not think the way they do is an important milestone for your child’s development of social skills. If it is the first time you have read the book together, try to keep the conversation brief so that you don’t interrupt the story for too long. You can have longer conversations the second or third time you read the book together and delve into the thoughts and feelings of the characters in the book. SCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Last week the school ran it’s annual Athletics Carnival, under the fantastic leadership of Mr Taylor our PE teacher. The weather was perfect and the day went very smoothly, much like that pro-verbial well oiled machine. Read more about the carnival later in this newsletter. Well done and thank you to all competitors, staff and parents who assisted on the day. USE OF MOBILES AND SMART PHONES AT SCHOOL Parents are reminded that children are not allowed to use their mobile telephones, smart phones or personal digital cameras at school or while on any school excursion or camp. This decision has been taken to protect individual students' rights to privacy and better manage the risk of images/videos being used inappro-priately or without permission.

As you would be aware, advancements in these sorts of technol-ogies allow images/videos to be taken and uploaded to social media sites instantly, often without consideration for the rights of the people in the images. As a school, we have not been immune to this inappropriate use of such devices.

While at school or on excursions, students have access to a number of school digital cameras as well as Surface tablets with still-image and video camera capabilities. Students will be al-lowed to use these devices to record school events and then to download images and/or video to their personal thumb drives under supervision. These images and videos will then be made available for all of the students to share in class activities. Mr Paul Larkin (Principal)

Reminder for parents and caregivers of CHOIR MEMBERS.

The festival is held on the Darlington Oval, Pine Terrace, Darlington.

SPORT NEWS

2014 Faction Carnival On Wednesday 15th of October we were able to conduct our long jump, teeball throw, middle distance and individual flag race events. Despite the warmish weather all the children gave their best efforts and a lot of new personal bests were set in the long jump and teeball throw events, where measurements are recorded. The staff and students would like to thank the following parents and friends for assisting with the running of the jumps and throwing events: Tina Merkouris, Glyn McKeon, Kelly Bertolini, Kara Cornelius, Branwen Williams, Vanessa Charlton, Kathy Morris, Angela Huisman, Maria Duncan and Amanda Miles. The carnival concluded on Friday 17th October with the running of the sprint, team games and shuttle relay events. The weather was perfect and the children displayed their skills in the individual sprints and the team activities. The following two tables outline the winners of the individual medallions and how each faction placed in the quest for the four different shields.
