Why would i pay for WlS when i can get an open-source Java application server (typically JBoss) for free?The upfront license cost for an application server is typically small compared to applica-tion development and deployment costs. Our customers feel that a commercially developed and supported product has fewer issues and costs related to application failure, downtime and performance.

We don’t develop in J2EE, we use Spring, so we don’t need a full blown Java Application Server.In addition to its industry-leading support for the J2EE development framework, WLS pro-vides a number of advantages for those de-veloping in Spring. The WLS Admin Console has a number of extensions to provide Spring support. WLS provides integrated security support for Spring beans as well as support for Spring beans in WLS clusters.

WlS is too expensive for us.Depending upon your environment and needs, you can buy WLS for as little as $2,000. Most customers find that the upfront costs for WLS are quickly recouped in savings due to the productivity gains throughout the appli-cation’s lifespan.

WlS is too hard to use.On the contrary: WLS is easy to install and configure and has long been recognized for its superior application configuration and management tooling.
