CONFIRMATION POLICY: Except for Special Programs (course numbers which begin with “SP”) and limited

enrollment courses (as specified herein), please consider yourself confirmed for all courses for which you

register. You will receive confirmation for all “SP” and limited enrollment courses. Early enrollment is strongly

recommended for such courses as they tend to fill quickly. All Renaissance Academy courses are filled on a first -

come, first-served basis.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If a class is canceled, you will be notified by phone and issued a full refund within 30

business days. If you wish to withdraw from a class, please notify the Renaissance Academy at 941-505-0130 no

later than 5:00 pm three (3) business days prior to the first session of the class in order to receive a refund.

Individuals who cancel after the start of the class will not receive a refund. Unless otherwise stated, a fourteen

(14) business day notice is required for refunds on all special programs ( SP).

The gentle, flowing movements of Tai Chi promote better health, leg strength, and an overall feeling of well-being, according

to the Mayo Clinic. The rhythmic movements and controlled breathing of Tai Chi, or “meditation in motion,” requires

practitioners to live in the present, thereby reducing stress and producing an inner calm. Tai Chi is low impact, reduces blood

pressure, and is especially suitable for older adults. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, and shoes. Instructor: Ms.

sexy teenage wife (Carroll Baker), who won't consummate the marriage until she turns 20. When Archie battles a

rival (Eli Wallach), he could lose his business -- and his bride. Baker earned an Oscar nod, and director Elia Kazan

won a Golden Globe for his steamy and, at the time of its release, controversial film.

Tuesday, June 17 at 1:00pm – 3:00pm (2 hours) This irony-filled tale is based on the autobiography of Solomon Perel, a Jewish German who changes his name and

joins the ranks of Hitler Youth in order to survive the Holocaust after he's discovered in a Polish orphanage. As he

climbs higher in the Nazi ranks, being found out seems nearly inevitable -- especially when a gay officer and a

severely anti-Semitic girlfriend are too close to discovering some irrefutable evidence.

This program is a series of three armchair journeys to countries south of the border – Brazil, Argentina and Chile, and Mexico. Register for the Series or any of the individual lectures listed below . Between these four countries there are nearly

400 million inhabitants; all were discovered and colonized nearly 100 years before Plymouth Landing in 1620; three of the

four Presidents are women; and over 200 million Brazilians don’t even speak Spanish. During each of these journeys we will

explore some important aspects of each country’s history, people, government and politics, and economy. We will also look

at the culture, what makes it unique and interesting, the country’s food and culinary tradition s, as well as its folklore. Each

journey will be accompanied by photographs that illustrate life, where and how people live, and the scenic beauty of the

Journeys Through Latin America: Argentina and Chile___________________________$18

At the bottom of South America, Argentina and Chile are the most remote but have developed highly educated and

sophisticated cultures and have produced several Nobel laureates in science and literature. Divided by the

magnificent Andes Mountains, they share Patagonia and Cape Horn in the extreme south, home to penguins,

glaciers, and dramatic scenery, as well as the Americas’ tallest mountain, Aconcagua, in the north. In recent years

both have gained culinary prominence to accompany their legendary wines. Argentina has the tango, while Chile has

the mysteries of Easter Island. Despite proximity, the countries are vastly different, differences we will highlight in

our journey.

Brazil is the largest country in South America. Nearly the same size as the United States, it is home to over 200

million. Brazil is diverse, dynamic and on the move - it is host to the 2014 World Cup in Soccer and will host the

2016 Summer Olympics. Brazil not only has the Amazon, but it has stunning beaches, dynamic cities, a Capital -

Brasilia - carved out of the jungle, and is the world's largest producer of orange juice. In addition to coffee its

diverse economy produces computers, cars, and even airplanes. And one should not forget, the largest and best carnival in the world.

So close but so often ignored, for most of us Mexico remains an enigma. Home to two of the most sophisticated pre-

Colombian cultures - the Toltec and the Maya - it is also the site of the oldest university in the Americas. Mexico

City, situated atop the capital of the Aztec empire, is a city of over 15 million, rich in color and contrasts, of world-

class architecture and art, and charming neighborhoods. Mexicans treasure their colonial past and folklore and guard

it assiduously through restoration and architectural integrity in towns such as Queretaro, Guanajuato, and San

Miguel de Allende, and institutions such as the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, bullfights, and its Mariachis. Mexico's

food is far beyond the Tex-Mex of restaurants in the US, and the best tacos in the world are still in Mexico.

Ancient Egypt: Glory of the Pharoahs________________________________________________$18

Perhaps no other civilization has so thoroughly captured the hearts and minds of the western world as that of the Ancient

Egyptians. As humankind emerged from its early ‘adolescence’ on the road to civilized ‘adulthood’, Ancient Egyptian culture

and society was there to lead the way. This ancient land became the known world’s leader in art and architecture, science and

industry, religion and philosophy. The Old Kingdom (2715 - 2200 BCE) saw the rise in monumental funerary architecture;

designed as tributes to the deceased. Trace the development of pyramid technology from Saqqara to Meidum to Giza.

basics of healthy eating and exercise. Norton discusses how to eat a healthy diet without “punishing yourself.” He also

describes how to maintain an active lifestyle through exercise and fitness centered activities as we age, as well as the benefits

Digital Photography Exposed _____ ____ ____ ___ $85

HC0736 Saturdays, June 28, July 5, 12, 19, 26, July 2 at 9:00am – 11:00am (12 hours)

This class will teach the fundamentals of photography, such as ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, and how they work together

to create an image. This class will also go over other equipment that assists photographers in different situations. The

instructor will make suggestions for buying or upgrading cameras and equipment. The fundamental rules of photography will

also be taught, such as the rule of thirds, simplifying backgrounds, and leading lines, to name a few. Upon completion of this

course, the student will be an informed buyer, as well as a competent photographer. The student will also understand differen t

ways to display their work. Anyone with a digital camera is welcome to attend. The instructor will be using a DSLR to

demonstrate examples. The students should have a working knowledge of their particular camera and what most of the

buttons do. There is a book to be purchased for $10 that is very helpful. Also, indoor and shady locations will be sought for

United States are working to recover priceless works of art missing or hidden for decades.

When a New York reporter (Linda Kozlowski) plucks crocodile hunter Dundee (Paul Hogan) from the Australian

Outback for a visit to the Big Apple, it's a clash of cultures and a recipe for good -natured comedy as naïve Dundee

negotiates the concrete jungle. Dundee proves that his instincts are quite useful in the city and adeptly handles

everything from wily muggers to high-society snoots without breaking a sweat. Hogan's script earned an Oscar nod.

Mysteries of the Dead Sea Scrolls: 65 Years of Rediscovery____________________________________$42

Since their discovery in the desert caves of Qumran in 1947, the Dead Sea Scrolls have been a source of fascination and

debate. What are the Scrolls? Who wrote them? Learn about the isolated, ascetic community that created and secreted these

documents long ago, and about the cloak-and-dagger exploits of the archaeologists who recovered them. Then explore what

these rare documents tell us about the emergence of Judaism and Christianity in the ancient world. The War Scro ll, Copper

Scroll, and Temple Scroll (that provides blueprints for the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem) are three of the documents

included in our discussion. This course combines the tools of history; geography, archaeology, and religious study to e xamine

what words written more than 2,000 years ago say to us today. Lunch is included in the price. Call for menu options and

Rights, (all available on-line). For example, from the South African Bill of Rights examine the value of human dignity .

Using the above sources and life experience, be prepared to discuss values of importance to a society in which you would like

to live. By discussion, the group will attempt to create a list of societal values to be cherished.

Gorbunkov (Yuri Nikulin) embarks on a getaway cruise, he becomes the unwitting pawn of the baddies, who

mistake him for their cohort. After realizing their error, the crooks set out to recover their loot by any means

necessary.

Undercover cop Cristi trails suspected pot dealer Victor through the decrepit streets of Vaslui, but when he learns

that the suspect is just a teen who sometimes gets high with his pals, he refuses to make an arrest. Unfortunately,

Cristi's boss isn't quite as forgiving. The Romanian New Wave rolls on strongly with this complex drama from

writer-director Corneliu Porumboiu .

This stunning film, the first to be made in a post-Taliban Afghanistan and inspired by a newspaper account read by

-- including Marina Golbahari and Zubaida Sahar -- adds integrity to the heartbreaking story.
