Consulting

Charlie Pownall is an advisor, mentor and coach who works with companies, governments and

individuals to improve their communications and manage their reputations.

Typically, he works at a senior level with the Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs and

Digital Marketing/Social Media teams; he also has extensive experience working with or alongside

Legal, Marketing, IT and HR functions.

He is accustomed to working flexibly in line with his clients’ requirements: direct, or as support to

existing advisors. He can work on short-term engagements, as a retained advisor or as someone to

He divides his time between London and Hong Kong and travels widely across Europe, the Middle-

Biography

Charlie Pownall is a consultant, trainer and coach who draws on over twenty years’ experience in public relations, advocacy, government communications, digital marketing and social media to advise companies, public sector bodies and individuals how to protect, manage and defend their reputations. Prior to his current role, Charlie Pownall had been Managing Director (Asia-Pacific) at public

relations and public affairs consultancy Burson-Marsteller and Group Communications Manager at

advertising and marketing services network WPP plc. He started his career with the European

Commission as a press officer and speechwriter before becoming Group Communications Director

at SYZYGY Group AG and leading communications for its 20x over-subscribed IPO on

Germany’s Neuer Markt.

A regular commentator and speaker, Charlie Pownall writes for publications such as ClickZ, Public

Affairs Asia, PR Week and Social Media Today, and has authored white papers and reports on

reputation management, stakeholder reporting and investor relations. His Corporate Reputation In The

Digital Age white paper was honoured at WPP’s prestigious annual Atticus Awards 2011.

Charlie Pownall chairs the Communications and Marketing Committee at the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. He divides his time between Hong Kong and London.
