PHOTOGRAPHY/RECORDING

Under copyright law and child protection requirements, the use of cameras enabled for flash photography (including mobile phone cameras) and audio recorders is forbidden, unless

shared on Social Media. MOBILE PHONES

All mobile phones must be switched off or on silent when in performance spaces.

CODE OF ETHICS

At all times, performers are expected to afford the same consideration to others as they would

expect for themselves. Behaviour not demonstrating the spirit of this Festival will not be

tolerated. Performers who show such behaviour will be disqualified immediately and members of the audience displaying inappropriate behaviour will be asked to leave the venue. To ensure that

adequate consideration is given, please remember to:- Give due acclaim and encouragement to

each other. Not only is this in the spirit of our Festival, but this is considered by panelists for some

awards. Remain seated while a performance is in progress Maintain silence during each

performance

South West NRM Storytelling 2017 RACK OFF RABBITS!

The goal of the South West NRM Storytelling Competition is to use traditional story writing and storytelling to highlight the way in which our eco-systems are degraded by releasing domestic

animals and plants into the wild; either deliberately, or by accident.

Storytelling provides a unique medium for learning, and helps people of all ages to increase their understanding about environmental issues affecting property owners and land managers across the

South West region.

This year’s topic will be “Rack Off Rabbits!”, which focuses on raising awareness about the damaging effects of European rabbits in our rural environments. This topic is particularly relevant

in 2017, as earlier this year a rabbit biocontrol agent (RHDV1 K5) was released across Australia to

help address the threats rabbits pose to our landscapes.

Participants will perform across five categories (dependant on their age); they must present a

story orally to the audience, in storytelling genre, and submit their story script to the judging panel

(which can also be illustrated). Participants can dress in costume if they wish.

Participants can choose to nominate in either a live or pre-recorded section:

- Live performances will occur on stage according to Festival programming (likely to be

Thursday evening 24th August, depending on nominations). The stage will be set with a campfire setting.

The addition of a pre-recorded section aims to increase accessibility of the competition to those

who may not be able to attend the Festival. To enter the pre-recorded section, participants must submit a video recording of their story, along with story script. Both video and script must be

emailed to [email protected] or posted/dropped in to the SWNRM Office: PO Box 630,

71 Galatea Street, Charleville 4470 by Monday 7th August 2017. These will be judged prior to the Festival.

Nominations are FREE for all categories in both sections, and are due Monday 17th July 2017. A

‘Solo Nomination Form’ must be completed – refer to Festival website for details.

Prizes for each category are as follows:

Live Performances Pre-recorded Performances:

1 st : $200 cash 1 st: $150 cash 2 nd: $100 in local vouchers 2 nd: $70 in local vouchers

3 rd: $50 in local vouchers 3 rd: $30 in local vouchers

Consent forms will be issued to participants to seek approval for competition material to be used for promotional purposes by South West NRM. Participants’ live stories will be videoed, and pre-

recorded videos published (assuming consent given) on YouTube and social media sites such as

Facebook.

All enquiries for storytelling items are to be directed to [email protected] – fact sheets

are available about rabbits, and the national release of the RHDV1 K5 virus.
