The CC initiative encourages openness and wider communication of research

In Uganda, NABOTU, CEHURD and most recently CUUL (Consortium of Uganda University Libraries) lead the CC Initiative
The Uganda Creative Commons License was launched in 2012
Earlier, demonstration projects to assess the economic viability of CC was done by Fountain Publishers; FEMRITE. In the UK, Bloomsbury Academic
Forges a balance inside traditional “all rights reserved” setting in copyright law- “Some rights reserved” and “no rights reserved”
Empower copyright owners to provide certain permissions to users in advance without fearing copyright infringement
Facilitate unprecedented access because of the many options available to the users to do with the work
