Conklin Post 28, Grand Haven, as we begin the second hundred years of the American Legion as well as our own Post 28! I hope you have enjoyed the trips back in time 100 years ago when the American Legion was being formed as much as I have writing about it. I learned a lot about WWI era history, and I also hope sharing it with you has sparked an interest in you to learn more. Continue a course that brings you closer as a Legion family member. Our Legion 100-year parties will be remembered for many years. From the Trillium formal Legion Ball, to all of our special guests - Brigadier General C. Robert Secrist, Virgil Westdale, and Toni Gianunzio - to Blues Night, Laugh your Glass Off, and even Pirates! Coast Guard Week! I don’t think we ever had so many people come listen to the Clown Band. Our Veterans Day Dinner was sold out, and our Post 99 th Birthday Party was at capacity. Our Post Picnic last year attracted over 50 kids laughing and playing games in the grass and being magically entertained by a magician! It was a beautiful day! Not to mention the 3Bs (Beer, Band, and Bingo)! The Post Christmas Party saw again over 75 kids enjoying Santa, gifts, and craft stations! We came together as a Post family. A special thank you to our SAL, Auxiliary, Riders, and 8&40! Our Post cannot run without all of us working together as we did this last year. There is no Post family without you. When we work together, good things happen! All the hard-working committees that work behind the scene to keep the Post operating also need a mention here. Post Manager Tina Davis and our bartenders - Professional! And let’s not forget our opportunity to help the Girl Scouts donate cases of cookies to our troops. Memorial Day 2019 was perfect. It was warm, no wind, deep blue sky, and thousands of people attended to remember and respect our fallen heroes. Thanks to all of you who have made our Post feel like a second home. If you haven’t had the opportunity to buy me a beer this last year as Commander of Post 28, I’m available under the title of Past Commander #101 of Post 28! LOL! Please welcome and support Commander #102 Janet E. Fonger. We are in good leadership hands for the next several years to come! Become a volunteer at the Post!
