Greetings,
As you read this our annual Tootsie Roll Drive will be in full operation. Thank you to all who have sent in your donations, and to all who came out and manned the roadblock with us. If you haven't sent in your donation yet, there is still time to get it in. Please make your checks payable to: KofC #2761 Charity Fund and mail to: 4417 River Road, Louisville, KY 40222. Again, please consider this, we currently have 500 members on our roster. If each one of you were to donate just twenty-five dollars we would raise over $12,500 alone. I am asking each of you to prayerfully consider your donation. Lets make this a record breaking year for this very worthy cause!
Our Annual Children's Halloween Party is scheduled for Saturday, October 17th at 6:00 pm. There is no charge for this event however, we will gladly accept donations this year. Again, we will have bean soup, chili, hot dogs, a craft for kids, and a not so scary haunted hay ride for the kids (large and small alike!). As many of you know this is a major event for the kids, so this year we would like to ask for donations of gently used or new Halloween decorations. Anyone who would like to make such a donation may do so by dropping the decorations off at the first floor bar of the council at least one week prior to the party.
I am very proud to announce that our new website is up and running! Please visit us at www.kofc2761.org and on
GRAND KNIGHT NOTESBY
GREG JOHNSON GRAND KNIGHT OF
BISHOP SPALDING COUNCIL
Facebook! Special thank you to Alan Crosby for all his hard work on the new site!
Our annual Mass of Remembrance will take place at the council on Wednesday, November 11th at 7:00 pm. (What better way to honor those who have gone before us.) And our Annual Thanksgiving Day Mass will also be at the council on Thursday, November 26th at 10:00 am. Father Poff has agreed to officiate both Masses.
I would like to remind all our members that our hall is available to member sponsored catering events at very competitive rates. This includes family reunions, birthdays, anniversary's, wedding receptions, or any business meeting that you may have. For more information please contact the council at (502) 893-2220.
As always, I urge everyone to attend our Wednesday lunches, and our Friday and Sunday dinners as this is a great opportunity to socialize with your fellow Knights and their families as well as support the councils day to day operations.
REMEMBER THIS IS YOUR COUNCIL, USE IT!Vivat Jesus! Greg

PARK & POOL – We had a fair Labor Day weekend in the park and pool, nothing to write home about but our members and their guests who came I think enjoyed themselves. Special thanks always to Dennis and crew and Steve Oswald for the music...
Pool is closed and DRAINED, but the park with some tables is still available should you be looking for a place to come and enjoy the scenery and just relax. If we know you are coming we will make sure the restrooms are open. Also most of the time you come we will have the first floor Honor Bar open, remember it is K OF C HONOR.
DOCKS & HURRICANE DECK – Our tentative plans are to have the dock, hurricane deck and park work party to winterize on Saturday, November 14th. Depending on the weather we may try to move some of the things that have to be moved on Saturday, November 7th.
CLUBHOUSE – We have both large A/C units on the 2nd floor working (and I say that with tongue in cheek) because they are very mature units and took a lot of special care to get up to speed. Also, we are going into the fall season when most of the time we should not need them. Anyone wanting to know what our monthly LG&E bill is during the summer months, just call me.
One important item, we had our second health inspection for the kitchen a couple weeks ago and received an A, 98%. Special thanks to Ron, the ladies in the kitchen and the R&L Crew for all that you do to keep our PART TIME KITCHEN up to the appropriate standards.
CHARITY PROJECTS – As I write this on the 23rd we have planned aluminum can pick up set up for tomorrow
Knights Corporation newsBy: John auBrey
at 10 AM and remember this money goes into the Council Charity Fund. Bring the cans and we will take it from there.
FOURTH DEGREE PAPERBACK BOOKS FOR VETS – SK Miller advises that as of Thursday, September 10th, they had delivered 21,626 books to the VA Hospital. Paperback books are like aluminum cans, once you are done with them bring them to the council and our brother knights will help further our primary reason for being a Knight, CHARITY.
ANNUAL TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE – One of Knights of Columbus virtues is CHARITY, and with fall on the way we know it is time for the Annual Tootsie Roll Drive, in which most councils get involved in one way or another. For Bishop Spalding Council we have a number of opportunities to truly live the word CHARITY. There will be road blocks at Brownsboro and the Watterson Expressway on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, October 2-4, during the day- light hours. If you are physically fit this is a very good opportunity to get some exercise and bring in money. The next opportunity is consider sending a check for $100 payable to K of C Charities and mail it in. You will be recognized on the front page of the Good Knight as a special thank you. Remember everyone cannot write a check, even for charity for $100. Write the check for whatever you can afford and send it in.
Fourteen (14 years ago) we started a very special group of donors, who I respectfully call “The Apostles”. Each of the apostles gives a minimum of $500 each and remains anonymous, although I do refer to them and acknowledge them in our Annual Charity Dinner Program as the Apostles.

Many thanks again to our own Chef GK Greg Johnson. He prepared hamburgers and brats for our meeting dinner. He, as always, was in charge of the kitchen help SK Dennis Bosse. GK, SK, Greg will be looking for volunteers to feed us at our October meeting which will be the 14th of October. We were treated to deluxe desserts provided by Lady Karen Segars, and delivered by SK
Ron Segars. Her culinary skills always amaze me. Thanks again to those who nourish our bodies.
This month is full of activities beginning with the Tootsie Roll Drive. The Drive is scheduled for October 2nd, 3rd, and 4th (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Sign up sheets will be available at our Friday and Sunday dinners, as well as our next Council meeting. Any time you can give to this charitable cause is greatly needed. Contact any Council or Assembly officer for more details or questions.
The Annual Children's Halloween Party is scheduled for Saturday, October 17th at 6 PM. We have bean soup, chilli, hot dogs and crafts for the kids and a not scary haunted hay

ride for children and adults. If anyone has any gently used or new Halloween decorations, please donate them to the council by dropping them off at the first floor bar.
Special recognition to those Sir Knights that gave up a chunk of their Labor Day to stand death watch for SK Victor Lucchese, Sr. Those dedicated Sir Knights were: SK Jim Miller, SK Ken Rosenbaum, SK Frank Frick, SK Ron Segars, SK Paul Martin, SK Bill Lippy, SK Rick Ratterman and SK Tom Bennett who also set up the chalice display. Thanks again for your dedication to our color corps. Labor day was not a convenient time to have a death watch. But all Knights know that death is not voluntary, and it will come to each of us, and we know not where nor when, nor how death will come.
Our books for Vets program is running strong, 289 delivered this month, and a total of 21,626 to date. The VA Hospital is very thankful for our efforts.
Please take advantage of our Wednesday lunches, and our Friday and Sunday dinners. Meals at the club provide a great opportunity to socialize with your fellow Knights and their families. - At your services. F/N Jim French

Hello Ladies. As I write this, it sure feels like fall has arrived. It’s sunny and in the 70’s. We had a good turnout at our last two meetings. I hope we can keep this up. Don’t forget that at our next meeting, we will have our grab bags. If you have never been to this before, it is fun. You get to bid on the grab bags that you want. Nothing gets too expensive. Just bring extra spending money.
Anyone that has signed up for the Churchill Downs day on November 18th, please make sure you get your money into Bobbie Jean Aubrey as soon as possible. We have three tables reserved, but I’m not sure if any space is still available. Please check with Bobbie Jean if you are interested.
The annual Tootsie Roll Drive will be held October 2 through October 4 at Highway 42 and Highway 22. If you can volunteer any time, please contact Greg Johnson. The Columbia Ladies will make our annual donation but individual donations are also welcome.
Columbia Capersby Becky Bosse
I want to thank Joyce Klusman and all of her helpers for the delicious German food at our last meeting. I truly appreciate everything that was done to make the collecting of dues and the meal go so smoothly. We wouldn’t be anywhere without our volunteers, so thank you ladies.
Our birthdays for October are Ann Caufield, Janet Griffin, Shirley Huhn, Carolyn Ledweg, Loretta Schneider, Tillie Schwartz and Marie Wine. Happy Birthday ladies. Celebrate well!
