Friends and Families of the Chargers,
Since our return from the Republic of Korea, the battalion has been focused on resetting our formation, reconnecting with our Families, and training for the next mission.
Over the past several months, our Soldiers have spent a consid-erable amount of time and energy servicing our vehicles and equipment. As is common after a return from a deployment, the battalion said goodbye to many outstanding Soldiers, lead-ers, and Families. We have also welcomed many new ones to the Charger Family. While this has been a daunting task, it is because of the tremendous collective effort of all that our for-mation is postured once again to succeed.
For the next several months we will focus on training for our pending deployment to the National Training Center in Jan/Feb 2016. This is an exercise designed to measure our overall readi-ness. Prior to this exercise, the battalion will deploy to Camp Shelby, Mississippi in Jul/Aug and partner with the 155th MS National Guard for a readiness exercise. Upon our return to Fort Hood, we will shoot gunnery in Sep/Oct.
I would like to wish all of you a safe and enjoyable summer. The battalion will enjoy a well deserved block leave period in June before starting our next training progression.
I hope you enjoy our newsletter and share it with friends and Family of the Charger Nation. Our intent is to highlight the
tremendous work being done everyday by our Soldiers and their Families. You can also follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/onetwelvecav.
I remain awed by the incredible effort our Soldiers put forth every day. Their dedication to selfless service and daily profes-sionalism is inspiring. I am truly blessed to be a part of this phenomenal organization, thank you all for your continued support.
May God continue to bless the Chargers, our Soldiers, and our
Families.

Charger Family, Alumni and Friends,
These past few months have been extremely busy while the Battal-ion has reset its equipment, continued to train, and sent multiple Soldiers to schools both here at the "Great Place" and throughout the Army. Several Soldiers have attended Ranger school, Master Gunner School, noncommissioned officer certification schools, additional duty certification schools, air assault, airborne, and com-bat lifesaver course. These schools have helped in developing better leaders and critical thinkers to solve some of the problems faced in both daily life and combat. My hat's off to these Soldiers for their additional sacrifice and time spent away from their families for not only their own development, but in making us a better organization and the Army a more effective force.
While every bit of effort goes into preparing the vehicles and Sol-diers for our upcoming training in Mississippi, we have been called upon by the Brigade leadership to support the other battalions with the necessary personnel to fill out their formations in order to effec-tively conduct training at the National Training Center in Fort Ir-win, California. One hundred and eleven Soldiers moved forward as augmentees to six battalions and made the Chargers proud.
Many compliments from our brother and sister organizations and the Brigade HQ were mentioned daily during the rotation, as they updated us on their progress. Our Soldiers conducted themselves professionally and set the example for the rest of the brigade to follow. I am extremely proud of their accomplishments and contin-uing the tradition of the Chargers being out front.
On top of all the commitments we have here in resetting our equip-ment, we've faced a large turnover of personnel throughout the battalion. As we bid bittersweet farewell to some of our most trusted brothers and sisters, we welcome the newest additions to our formation with open arms. Some are new to the Army, yet, others are veterans and bring additional insight and experience to the team. We are proud to have them and make them a part of our fine traditions. All the while I smile in confidence that we are sup-porting the bigger picture of the Army in populating other for-mations with some of our finest officers, noncommissioned officers and Soldiers.
Thank you to the Families and Soldiers who allow me to come to work and lead the finest Soldiers of the best battalion on Fort Hood, Texas, if not the best in our Army.

What a fantastic time to be part of the Charger Battalion! We are so thankful for all our dedicated, hard-working, FRG Lead-ers. These leaders truly serve as an essential part of our organization. The FRGs continuously work hard to keep family mem-bers "in-the-know, and help plan and coordinate a variety of events for our Charger Families to enjoy. Earlier this year, the Second Annual Charger "Eggstravaganza" was a success thanks to their planning and collaboration. Families were able to enjoy face-painting, crafts, egg races, a fantastic egg hunt, and a visit from the Easter Bunny!
If you would like to help plan future events, please contact your FRG Leader. We have a slew of opportunities coming up in the next few months: everything from a Battalion Family Run, to a "Charger Family Spur Ride," to a Fall Fest, and much more. We'd love to have you join us!
As our Soldiers prepare to head out for training later this summer, your FRGs will be disseminating a lot of information, and we want to make sure you are informed about it. Please take a second to make sure your FRG Leader has updated contact in-formation for you.

Hellraisers Families and Friends,
This month has been jam-packed with exciting events here for the company. As always, the Soldiers of Hellraisers Company continue to set the standard while operating in garrison. Last month was a special one! On the 8th of April, the companys arms room inspection resulted in the
cleanliness of all weapons and bonding time among Hellraisers. Thank you all for the time put in, but now we know the standards for turning in and maintaining cleanli-ness of weapons in the arms room. Soldiers participated in CPXII to aid the 36ID at the MCTC. We have our scouts and mortars currently deployed to NTC and developing as a combat multiplier. Our most recent target was the pla-toon STX from 4-12 May. Hellraisers set up and operated in the Battalion TOC, while integrating our snipers for some good training. Major events are coming in the next couple of months, and everyone needs to start preparing mentally and physically. We have XCTC coming up in July-August in addition to EFMB, EIB, and NTC in early 2016. Thank you for the continued love and support you provide to this great organization.

Dear Hellraiser Family,
Great things have happened this month and the last. First off, we have a new addition to our Hellraiser family. We welcome baby Jada Marie Parsons to the family and con-gratulate SGT Harris and the Harris family. Furthermore, as a result of hard work and dedication with exemplary leadership potential, we have newly promoted Soldiers in the company. Congratulations to newly promoted SSG McBride, SGT Chavez and SGT Curtis. This is a testa-ment to their hard work and dedication, the only way to go is up. Great news from our scouts and mortar brethren over at NTC as they did an outstanding job supporting the brigades NTC rotation. I sincerely extend my gratitude
to all the families that took part in it. Our medical pla-toon is extending influence by supporting the local ROTC program at Shoemaker High School. Great job, medics.
Overall, it started out as a busy month, but we main-tained safety and professionalism as we led from the front.
We are all looking forward to a much needed Memorial Day weekend. I want to extend to you all a safe and happy Memorial Day. I look forward to seeing you at our next FRG meeting. Thank you for your support.

Dear Attack Family,
During the month of April, Attack Company has been busy preparing for various training events to not only test our systems, but to better prepare our formation for upcoming missions. Additionally, we have had to detach 11 Soldiers, including myself, to deploy in support of the 3ABCT's Na-tional Training Center rotation.
In May, Soldiers still at Fort Hood completed platoon level training and continued to exercise extensively in preparation for the next mission. During the last week of May, Attack will execute a squad live fire exercise. This exercise will allow the Soldiers to test their skills on all of the assets avail-able to their squads.
I understand that the increase in operational tempo and the late-notice deployment of some of our Soldiers to NTC has added stress on the company and its Families. I want to ex-tend my thanks and appreciation to everyone for your sup-port.

Attack Family and Friends,
The past few months have been busy. We have continued to prepare our equipment, establish our operating systems, and build our teams for our upcoming missions. Attack recently completed servicing the vehicle fleet and the weapon systems assigned to the company. The company executed an M4 range, M249 range, M320 range, Team Live-Fire Exercise, and the battalions Platoon Situational Training Exercise. Congratulations are in order for SGT Joshua Graffio for competing and winning the Division Noncommissioned Officer of the Year Award. SGT Graffios achievement reflects great credit upon himself and
the entire Attack family. Additionally, several Attack Sol-diers have volunteered for and graduated from Air Assault School. On behalf of 1SG Randy Angel and myself, we thank you for the continual love and support you have all given to this organization.

Bone Crusher Family and Friends,
Thank you for the privilege of calling you family and for the hon-or of calling your loved one, brother. It has been a great 90 days to be in the Army, the Cav, and in the Infantry! Currently, we have 16 Soldiers at the National Training Center in California and their performance has been superb. The commander and sergeant major of our brigade personally recognized them for tactical and technical proficiency.
As a company, we have recently completed our biggest training event since coming back from the Republic of South Korea. We conducted a platoon situational training exercise over the dura-tion of eight days. This entailed maneuvering our vehicles and Soldiers across some tough terrain on the west side of Fort Hood. Of note, we had the Performance Enhancement Team from the resiliency campus on Fort Hood with us on this exer-cise and will have them for the rest of the year. They are embed-ded with our company and focused on improving performance.
One of the biggest focuses this quarter has been validating the vehicles, equipment and personnel services that will enable the Bone Crushers to accomplish whatever mission that is asked of them, whenever and wherever their nation calls. To this end, we recently test-fired our Bradley Fighting Vehicles and have con-ducted many rifle and machine gun ranges to test the Soldiers and their equipment.
Your Soldiers recently completed a physical fitness test that proved that they are the fittest Soldiers in the Battalion. They averaged a 265, which is excellent for any combat arms company but fell short of the high standard that they wished to reach. En-sure that you remind your loved one before the first week of July that the company goal is 280.
Physical fitness is not the only focus of the Bone Crushers. The Soldiers have also been conducting college classes during work through Central Texas College and off-duty through various online programs. Central Texas College also allows family mem-bers to attend classes for free. Contact Mariam Pazz, our out-standing FRG leader, at [email protected] for more details.
Thank you for all that you do to support your Soldier and Team Bone Crusher.

Bone Crusher Family and Friends,
First and foremost, today is a great day to be a Bonecrusher! As you well know, Team Bonecrusher has been extremely busy the last 90 days conducting maintenance on our Brad-ley fleet and preparing for the battalions upcoming training
events. Our Soldiers continue to not only impress, but also motivate me on a daily basis with their professionalism and dedication to the team. Your Soldiers diligence in the mo-
torpool allowed Team Bonecrusher to move 12 out of 14 of our Bradleys out to the training area and successfully con-duct a test fire. This was the highest percentage out of all the Bradley fleets in the battalion. For training we have been focusing on sharpening our skills as infantrymen by conduct-ing team- and squad-level training such as dismounted live fires, urban operations, and qualifications on our individual weapon systems. This training paid dividends at our Platoon situational training events and I fully anticipate that your Soldier will continue to impress in all that they are asked to do.
Our FRG has been working tirelessly to support Team Bonecrusher here on the home front. In the last 90 days our FRG has seen a 200 percent increase in participation at meetings and events, and with their efforts I expect to con-tinue to see an increase in the future. Our FRG leader Miri-am Pazz continues to plan fun and informative events every month in an effort to keep families informed and engaged in all that our team is doing. If you would like information on how you can become a volunteer or how you can participate in FRG functions please like our Facebook page, which can be found at https://www.facebook.com/#!/bravocompany1bn12thcav.

Its a great day to be a Crazyhorse! Id like to take a mo-
ment to personally thank the Families of Crazyhorse Com-pany for their continuing support of your Soldiers. I have asked a lot of the company as weve begun training, and I
am incredibly proud and humbled by their professionalism and motivation in the execution of their duties. We have yet to fail a mission, and thats because they work hard to
make this the best company in the 1st Cavalry Division. Theres been a lot of long days, which is part of our job,
but the Soldiers always maintain their positivity and sense of humor regardless of the task.
On top of maintaining and maneuvering the tanks, were
working on rebuilding a Tactical Standard Operating Pro-cedures (TACSOP) book. The TACSOP is an incredibly valuable tool to use and reference in our missions, and one that were trying to make so every Soldier can use it effec-
tively. Its been challenging, but Soldiers and leaders of all
ranks have put in a tremendous amount of effort to make a great product. As we head to field training, the Soldiers will use and validate the document, and we will make
changes or updates as required. Over the next few months, we will complete the TACSOP and provide each member of the company with a hard copy they can use during every training event!
In the near future we will head to Camp Shelby, Mississip-pi, where we will participate in a training event with the National Guard. This is going to be a great event to contin-ue training and build the confidence and capabilities of our Soldiers. While it will be a tough training event away from home, were going to ensure that we make effective use of
our time to train and maintain our legacy as the best com-pany in First Cavalry!
From the mechanics turning wrenches, the commo and supply guys making magic happen, the medics constantly training and improving our medical skills, and of course the tankers training hard, I cannot thank every member of Crazyhorse Company enough. Thank you for your contin-ued support, Strike Hard!

First and foremost, Id like to congratulate the company for
their exceptional work over the past few months. Since our return from Korea weve gone through significant personnel
changes as Soldiers move on to different jobs or leave the Army. Despite our limited personnel, the Soldiers keep doing amazing work to accomplish every mission.
Weve had a bunch of Soldiers receive promotions based on
their performance, multiple awards handed out to deserving personnel for their service, and over 10 reenlistments! It makes me very proud to see how many reenlistments have occurred in the company, and how these Soldiers will make the Army a better place.
As we move into our training phase, Ive been impressed
with the NCOs teaching and training our newer gunners and tank commanders as they impart their knowledge and experience to rebuild our company. Change is inevitable in the Army, and the leaders in the company have done a great job sharing their skills with their subordinates to build a cohesive and lethal team.
Strike Hard!

Deathrider Families and Friends,
March and April have flown by for Delta Company. These months have provided us with great opportunities to train on our warfighting fundamentals. We have focused on individual and crew level training as we prepare ourselves for platoon maneuver training in May and the training we will conduct at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, later this sum-mer.
Throughout March we conducted several small arms ranges, so our Soldiers would be qualified on their assigned weapon systems. Several Soldiers distinguished themselves through their weapons proficiency, like SSG Aguilera who shot a perfect 40/40 targets during rifle qualifi-cation. Additionally in April, the company executed Drivers Training. During this training, platoons practiced maneuvering their tanks and tactical vehicles as we have several newly assigned drivers throughout the company. Soldiers practiced driving during the day, under night time conditions, and rehearsed the techniques for recovering vehicles that could not move. This training helped each Soldier regain confi-dence in maneuvering our fleet of vehicles, a skill we have not prac-ticed since we were deployed to Korea!
Our highlight training event during April was the Live-Fire Accuracy Screening Test (LFAST) range. This was the first time we deployed the entire company to the field since we returned from Korea. While at the LFAST range we had the opportunity to test fire our tanks and con-firm that each vehicle worked properly. One of our new mechanics, Private Tribble, shot her very first main gun round from a tank while we were at the range!
I cant stress this enough, but your Soldiers have put forward a tremen-
dous amount of effort maintaining our vehicles and bringing them up to full working status. Throughout these last several months I have been impressed daily by the hard work of our mechanics, tankers, and med-ics. We have been successful during the spring only because of the hard work your Soldiers have done.
I also want to thank the Family Readiness Group (FRG) for hosting an outstanding Company BBQ in April! Clara Pulido, Lauren Massey, and the rest of our volunteers did a great job, and everyone had a blast. The Pie in the Face and Dunk Booth fundraisers more than replenished our FRG funds, so hopefully we will be able to host another Company BBQ later this year. 1SG Acevedo also enjoyed receiving a pie in the face from PFC Bragg! Seeing the large turnout of our Soldiers, their spouses and children at these events reinforces the fact that Deathrider Company is a family.
I hope you and your Families are doing well. Thanks for supporting your Soldier and for everything you contribute to the Deathrider Fami-ly!

Deathrider Family,
These past few months have been a great success for the company.
Recently we concluded a battalion level maneuver training exer-cise from 4 May to 12 May. This allowed all of our Soldiers to properly prepare for our Camp Shelby operation this summer. This exercise also acted as a refresher to our experienced Soldiers and taught our new ones tank tactics. Throughout the day and night, Deathriders constantly prepared for and executed day and night missions. I was impressed with how well our Soldiers were able to perform even in the most adverse of conditions. I cannot wait to see how well our Soldiers will continue to develop as we move forward to future battalion and brigade training exercises.
Prior to our field training, I was also pleased to see a great turnout at our FRG picnic. It is always nice to see Families and their chil-dren join our Soldiers for company events. These events serve as a great tool to remind everyone about how much Deathrider Com-pany truly is a family.
Very recently I had the opportunity to visit Operation Phantom Support. This non-profit charity offers great services for Soldiers and their Families for little or no cost. In addition to great food and clothing, they offer a place where Soldiers can volunteer and help others. For more information you can visit their website, http://www.operationphantomsupport.com/, or check out their location at 315 East Avenue C, Killeen, TX 76541.
Deathriders continue to do well. Many new Soldiers and their Families have added more life and personalities to this unit. Family and friend support will be much needed as we continue to prepare for our training this summer at Camp Shelby.
Continue to do great things this next quarter in the Deathrider Company!

Jackal Family and Friends,
It has been a great start to the new year for the Jackals. We've said goodbye to many members of the team who served with us in Korea, but we've also welcomed new Sol-diers and their Families. I was extremely happy to welcome back Dee Blascyk to the position of Family Readiness Group leader! Our primary mission this quarter has been to con-duct much-needed services on our equipment, most of which had not been touched for over a year while we were deployed. We've also focused on sending our Soldiers to various schools for professional development and career pro-gression. On top of that, we've been conducting our normal sustainment operations to include providing food, fuel and ammunition in support of training events across the battal-ion. I'm always impressed by how our Soldiers are able to accomplish multiple missions simultaneously, often times with limited personnel. At the start of May, we now shift our focus more heavily to training our own warfighting func-tions. We'll be conducting training on combat logistics pa-trols, driving under limited visibility, providing food service in a field environment, and qualifying on our personal weap-ons. There is no place better than the field to see our unit truly shine, so I'm excited about the upcoming field exercise. I look forward to this next quarter and everything we'll ac-complish. Thank you for your support!"

Jackal Family,
It is great to be home at the "Great Place" after our nine month deployment to Korea. We have transitioned a lot of Soldiers from the Jackal team, but have added new mem-bers to the team in the process. As the warm weather of spring approaches, we are ramping up for our first field training exercise since re-deployment from Korea. The Jackal team is very excited to get some well-deserved field training time as we prepare for upcoming missions. Services on our equipment are almost complete as our Maintenance Platoon has done a fantastic job turning wrenches. With our Infantry and Armor companies shooting the big guns, our Distribution Platoon is busy supplying them with fuel and ammo. Our cooks continue to do a fantastic job of feeding the BDE while our Operations Platoon sets the company up for success. We look forward to the next quarter and mis-sions to come. On 2 February 1901, Congress authorized the organization of the Twelfth Regiment of Cavalry, Army of the United States. Under this authority, the regiment was formed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas on 8 February 1901. From 1901 until 1911, the Regiment served posts in Texas, Georgia, and the Philippines. The Regiment returned to Texas to conduct border patrol duty in the lower Rio Grande Valley. There the 1st Squadron engaged small detachments of raiding bandits until February 22, 1916.
1st Squadron reported for duty to Corozal in the Panama Canal Zone. The Squadron remained in Corozal until 1921 when the Regiment was reorganized during the drawdown following the First World War.
On 3 January 1933 the Twelfth Cavalry was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division and participated in division maneuvers. The unit was reorganized as an infantry regiment in preparation for overseas service.
The Twelfth Cavalry arrived in Australia on 26 July 1943 and began six months of jungle and amphibious training. The Regiment's first assault in the Pacific War came on 29 February 1944 when her soldiers assaulted the Los Negros Islands in the Admiralty Islands, north of New Guinea. The Twelfth Cavalry was assigned to the Leyte-Samar Campaign and helped liberate those islands from Japanese control in spite of stubborn resistance. Continuing the attack onto the island of Luzon, Regimental history was highlighted on 3 February 1945 when a flying column of Cavalrymen cut a 100-mile path through enemy-held territory to be the "First in Manila".
After World War II, the Twelfth Cavalry settled in for occupation duty in Japan and was inactivated on 29 March 1949. The Twelfth Cavalry was reactivated on 15 February 1957 as part of the 1st Armored Division at Fort Polk, Louisiana. The 1st Squadron was designated "1st Reconnais-sance Squadron."
The Twelfth was again inactivated on 3 February 1962. On 1 September 1963 the squadron was redesignated the First Battalion and reactivated and assigned to the First Cavalry Division in Korea. In June 1965, the battalion's colors were returned to Fort Benning, Georgia and assigned to a battalion of the 11th Air Assault Division (Test), in preparation for duty in the Republic of Vietnam.
During the Vietnam War units of the battalion participated in 12 campaigns and earned three Presidential Unit Citations and three Valorous Unit Awards for actions against the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese Army. In January 1972 the battalion returned from Vietnam to its new home at Fort Hood, Texas where it was organized as an M113A1 equipped mechanized infantry battalion, a maneuver battalion of the 1st Brigade of the Army's 1st Cavalry Division (TRICAP). Significant during the battalion's TRICAP period in 1972, it participated in a massive removal of unex-ploded ordnance in the impact area of Ft. Hood, much of it dating to WW II, in preparation for the conduct of a several week multi division force on force exercise pitting the TRICAP Division against 2nd Armored Division in Operation Gallant Hand. The 1st Battalion's work during this exercise was a further extension of work done by the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry with other units of the 1st Brigade during Air Cavalry Combat Brigade Tests 1 and 2 to evaluate the TRICAP organization of armor, air assault, assault helicopter and mechanized infantry as a combined arms force operating against Soviet style ground forces. LTC Kelley commanded the battalion at this time.
On 15 June 1983, the 1st Battalion was relieved of its assignment to the First Cavalry Division and was inactivated at Fort Hood, Texas. Three years later, on 4 October 1986, the battalion was reactivated as the 1st Squadron at Fort Knox, Kentucky. There, the squadron assumed the mis-sion of training new armor soldiers. On 16 December 1992 the Squadron was redesignated the First Battalion and moved to Fort Hood, Texas.
As of May 2002, the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry transitioned to the M1A2 SEP tank the first unit in the 1st Cavalry Division to do so.
In March 2004, 1st Battalion deployed as part of 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division to East Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Organized as a task force with attached infantry and engineer companies and operating from Camp Eagle outside Sadr City, 112 CAV battled the Mahdi Army of Muqtada al-Sadr throughout 2004. Task Force 112 Cavalry was commanded by LTC Tim Meredith, with senior NCO CSM Donald Battle.
October 2006 December 2007 1st Battalion deployed as part of 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division to Baqubah, Iraq. Under the command of LTC Goins and CSM Harris. While in Baqubah the battalion was spread then across the Diayla Province, then known as a safe haven for ISI (Islamic State of Iraq) and AQI (Al Queda in Iraq). Baqubah was announced to be the capital of the ISI and the coalition forces were to rout-ed out. After 7 months, Operation Arrowhead Ripper was initiated. The operation was success, with the city and infrastructure becoming more secure. 1-12 CAV was in Baqubah for 15 months and during that, it was one of the hardest deployments ever seen by the battalion.
The battalion deployed again in December 2008 to the volatile Ninewa Province, Iraq, this time, under the command of LTC Michael Fadden and CSM Eddie Delvalle.
February 2011 December 2011 1st Battalion was deployed to southern Iraq with 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division in support of Operation New Dawn. The main effort was situated in Basrah under LTC Andrew Poznick and CSM Darryl Gill. They were among the last American soldiers to exit Iraq.
February 2014 1st Battalion deployed about 800 combat-ready soldiers under the leadership of LTC Arthur S. Sellers and CSM Ronald J. Graves to Camps Hovey and Stanley, Republic of Korea, for nine months. This included the entire battalion and its forward support company. The de-ployment was part of the Army Force Generation rotational plan to increase theater readiness and maneuver capabilities. The battalion was at-tached to the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. (The Second to None division is the only permanent forward-deployed division in the U.S. Army.)
