Attention Getter

• The part of your introduction that engages your audience and gains their focus– Appeal to your audience’s sense of humor– Ask a question– State a fact– Tell a story

Credibility Statement

• The part of your introduction that establishes the speaker as a knowledgeable source on the speech topic

– Argumentative thesis statement: a thesis statement where a claim is made by the speaker, and then supported by evidence
