They make decisions, allocate resources and direct the activities of others to attain goals. Management Functions. PLANNIN G- defining an organization· s goals and establishing an overall strategy to achieve the goals. ORGANIZING-designing an organization·s structure. Deciding who is to report to whom, who will do what, when and where decisions are to be made. LEADING- direct and co-ordinate people. CONTROLLI NG- Ensuring that things are going as they should. MINTZBERG·S MANAGERIAL ROLES. (1) Interpersonal Roles Figurehead: performing number of routine duties of legal and social nature. Leader: motivation and direction of employees. Liaison: maintaining outside contacts to get information and favors (2) Informational Roles Monitor: acts as NERVE CENTER of internal and external information of org. Disseminator: provide information received from outsiders to employees of org. Spokesperson: provide information to outsiders on organizations policies and actions. (3) Decisional Roles Entrepreneur: searching organization and opportunities and initiates for change. Disturbance handler: taking corrective actions when unit faces sudden problems. Resource Allocator: make or a pprove significant decisions. Negotiator: representing organization at major negotiations.
