President’s Letter, May 2016
Dear Members,
What a beautiful spring we have had this year. The change in
seasons from winter to spring in Missouri is always spectacular, but
this year was truly beautiful. This time of the year also brings
change to the Gateway Chapter. We had our spring retreat, have a
new slate of officers for the New Year, and look forward to spring
luncheon. The chapter also looks forward to the new year of
programs, overnighter, fall retreat, and meetings at Ladue Chapel.
The Chapter also is beginning corresponding with other Chapters
across the country. We feel that this last year was one of learning
and growing as individuals, Co-Presidents, as well as stitchers. We
look forward to growing in the coming year and as always seek the
help of other members to help the Chapter grow. Please read the
newsletter with the thought in mind of what can I do to help the
Chapter?

Membership Dues Information
The following members will owe LOCAL DUES of $22
Gerry Augustine Lentz Maribell Knickerbocker Kathryn Nagy Kay Schmitt Peggy Sims
Please mail your checks to me - 9552 Clayton Rd. St. Louis, MO 63124 - by May 15. Since we do not send out bills for Chapter Dues much effort is put into reminding members of when their dues are needed: this newsletter, an
email, snail mail and a phone call if needed. After that point a member may be dropped from the roll. Checks should be made payable to Gateway Chapter - ANG. If you give your check to another board member please let me
know. It saves a lot of confusion. Also, please make sure your National ANG membership is current. You cannot be
a member of the local chapter if you do not belong to the National ANG organization. Except for your initial membership payment, National ANG dues are paid directly to National Headquarters. You should receive a notice
from them shortly before that payment is due. If you need assistance with any membership matters please feel free to contact me at

Spring Retreat at Sign of the Arrow
19 stitchers were signed up for the Sign of the Arrow Spring retreat. The group had some
participants that were ill and not able to attend, which we were saddened by. The group
that was present enjoyed the day stitching. Each participant received a goody bag, as well
as a door prize! Snacks and conversation flowed with ease. As with any gathering of
stitchers, the conversation veered toward stitches. Many opinions were asked for and
many given. Thank you Sign of The Arrow for the wonderful stitching space, prizes,
snacks, and a place where all stitchers are welcome.

Terry Dryden's visit to our STL Gateway Chapter ANG by Nancy Kinker
Terry taught her two day "Funky Rose" class, held at Ladue Chapel the first part of March. She
started the class by introducing her projects and telling us about how she started teaching
needlepoint designs. She is an expert in color and design.
We started by using Copic colored markers to "paint" our canvases. Everyone's canvas took on
a different run for his money!
Our next step was working on the inner border using a Jacquard stitch and how time flew when
we were all having so much fun. All of a sudden it was 4:00 P.M. We all headed to Lester's for
a bite to eat with the teacher. Again, all fun and tons of laughter.
Friday morning, we all started using our 7mm River Silk and making a beautiful flowing silk
rose for our focal point. Moving on was the most fun, using a packet of "Bead Gravy" and
pilling on the beads for the center of the flower, OH, in the silk also? FUN. Now this is a
"Funky Rose".
We had a relaxing two days due to our stitch guide was so well laid out and explained every
detail beautifully. And yet, when we walked around the room, we all had different looking
canvases. I certainly would take another class from Terry Dryden. We are fortunate she came in
to share her knowledge with our local ANG chapter.

Philanthropy
Please help us to continue our Philanthropy support to the 5th grade class at Coche Elementary School. Our teacher is so excited we have adopted her class to help with supplies. I will be accepting any donations from the list or you may buy her gift cards at Office Max or Target. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to talk with Judy Lewis or email [email protected]
The May meeting will be our last opportunity to help this class. I would love to collect items for her one more time.

SPRING LUNCHEON 2015 – SAVE THE DATE
Barb Smith has graciously decided to open her beautiful house and garden to our Chapter once again for our 2015 Spring Luncheon. The date for the event will be Saturday, June 6. Gourmet to Go did a great job last year catering the event, and we will probably use them once again. We plan to have a menu and price available in the very near future, along with sign-up information. Please save the date. Hopefully, the day will be nice and sunny (unlike last year); dining in Barb’s back yard is like visiting a tropical resort.
