Pg. 318

Conceptual Objective (CO): Quadrilateral is the general definition of ANY four-sided figure.

The broad category of Quadrilateral is further broken down into subcategories of 4-sided shapes.

ParallelogramRectangleSquareRhombusTrapezoid

Each of these Quadrilaterals is bestowed with particular characteristics.

These shapes will have some unique characteristics and several common characteristics. I highly recommend staring a new chart and keeping track of the similarities and differences.

Section 6-1 Polygons Pg. 322

Conceptual Objective #1 (CO):

This section gives us the vocabulary of POLYGONS.

A Polygon is when your parrot escapes.

No of course not…Polygons are the basic straight edged shapes you already know.

Section 6-2/6-3 PARALLELOGRAMS

Pg. 330, Pg. 338

C.O.: These two sections go together quite well.

In 6-2 we define the characteristics of a Parallelogram.

In 6-3 we evaluate whether those definitions apply to a Quadrilateral in order to prove whether it is a Parallelogram.

In other words, in 6-3 we find out if a Quadrilateral has any of the characteristics defined in 6-2, and if so we can say the Quadrilateral is a ParallelogramQuadrilateral is a Parallelogram.

Section 6-2/6-3 PARALLELOGRAMS

Pg. 330, Pg. 338

C.O.: Let’s think back…have we ever seen this pattern before? Has there been a time when we define the characteristics of “parallel-ness” in one section, and then in the next section we evaluate whether those definitions apply in order to prove Parallelosity?

Why yes, Mr. Kelley we have! As I recall, this same pattern occurred inSection 3-3 AND 3-4!”

Split your Group into two Sub-groups .

Each Sub-group does half the problems, then explains each proof to the other Sub-group.

C.O.: In this section we define three special Parallelograms and note their unique properties.

Please read thru the section.

See Definitions Rhombi, Rectangles and Squares on the top of page 347. Please note the Venn diagram. This is yet another way to organize data, specifically sets that overlap.

Theorems 6-14 - 6-16 apply to Isosceles Trapezoids onlyonly.

Theorem 6-17 is for ANYANY Trapezoid.

Section 6-6/6-7

We have a Test on Chapter 6 on Friday 2/18.

In class today you will work on the last two sections of the chapter. Work in groups according to the directions.

During class, when you have the opportunity to discuss your work with your classmates, you should work on the pages of the handouts as indicated in the instructions on the next few pages. If you finish all of your in class work then feel free to start the homework.

ALL OF THE PAGES are due as homework on the day of the test.

I should be here Wednesday to help answer any questions and review.

Section 6-6 Special Quadrilaterals

(Summarizing Properties of Quadrilaterals)

Pg. 364

You have studied 7 different quadrilaterals. In this section you will hone your skills in:

1.Distinguishing the shapes based on given information2.Proving quadrilaterals as one of the 7 shapes

Pg. 364

I have given you a 6-6 handout. The first two pages are to be done in class. The last two pages are homework.

ALL OF IT is Homework due the day of the test.

Section 6-7 Areas of Triangles and

Quadrilaterals Pg. 372

You have studied 7 different quadrilaterals. Now we will explore how to find the Area of each.

I have given you a 6-7 handout. The first two pages are to be done in class. The last page is homework.

Section 6-7 Areas of Triangles and

Quadrilaterals Pg. 372

On the first page of the 6-7 handout, as you count to find the area, think about how each shape is a combination of squares, rectangles, and triangles and try to predict the formula for each.

On the second page, read each Postulate or Thm. Translate each sentence into a Formula (where

possible). Then check in the book to make sure you wrote each one correctly.
