What is Body Image?

What is an Eating Disorder?

-“The subjective picture or mental image of one's own body”(Bing.com)

In my own words….

An eating disorder is a disorder that starts in the brain, that forces people to believe that they are

either way to under weight or way too over weight when in fact that are fine.

How are Body Image and Eating Disorders

related?

When someone is upset with the way they look after constant over evaluation of themselves, they

tend to try to change their image.

For example: A 16 year old Junior in High School, feels as if she is way too overweight because of

the different females that she sees around her and all over social media, so she decides to start

making herself throw up.

Body Image CAN Equal certain Eating Disorders

What is the Freshman 15?

In my own words:

The freshman 15 is somewhat of a myth. For example, this myth is

surrounded around people believing that majority of college freshman lose or gain over 15 pounds

during their first semester or first year of college.

The truth is, that yes, many freshmans do gain a little bit of weight during their first semester

or year of college but it is usually way less than 15 pounds and in some cases way more than 15

pounds.

Are Body Image, Eating Disorders and,

The Freshman 15 related?

I definitely do believe that all three of these topics are related. I believe this because of the fact that many

people who believe that they are getting too small or too big during their freshman year begin to look

specifically at their body image which in some cases can cause them to start to want to change themselves,

which in some cases can be them developing a certain kind of eating disorder.
