Regular Polyhedron: A polyhedron made up of congruent regular polygons

Types of Polyhedrons

Prism: A polyhedron with two congruent parallel polygon bases connected by quadrilateral faces.

Base: two parallel faces in a prism

Lateral faces: Faces that are not bases

Lateral edges: where the lateral faces meet

IJName the polyhedron: heptahedron

Name the prism: pentagonal prism

Name a base:

Name 2 edges:

Name a lateral face:

Ways to classify prisms:Edges in an oblique prism are not perpendicular to the base

Altitude of a prism: the perpendicular segment from one base to the plane containing the other base. The length of the altitude is called the height of the prism.

Pyramid: a polyhedron with one polygon base and triangular lateral faces that meet at a point

The altitude of a pyramid is IN the pyramid. Slant height is the

altitude of the triangles ON THE SIDE of the pyramid.

Altitude of a pyramid: the perpendicular segment from the vertex to the base

Slant height of a pyramid: the length of each triangular face

11.2 NotesSphere: the set of all points in a space at a given distance from a given point

center

radius

Hemisphere: half of a sphere

The Great Circle: the face of a hemisphere

Cylinder

Axis: the segment connecting the centers of the circles.

Altitude: A perpendicular segment from one base to the plane containing the other.

Right cylinder: when the Oblique cylinder: when axis is perpendicular to the axis is notthe bases. perpendicular to the

bases.

Cone

Right cone- when a there is a perpendicular line from the vertex to the center of the base.

Oblique cone- Cones that are not right.
