Goliath, the Giant

• Saul finds out about David• Learns about a special talent of

• The circle starts again–Philistines trying to gain control

The Battle

• Philistine Army on 1 hill

• Led by a giant of a man named Goliath

• Wore bronze armor/spear and shield (heavy)

• Walked valley, trying to pick a fight

• Israelite Army on 1 hill

• David, 3 eldest brothers

• David too young to be in army, brings in supplies

• David asks what happens if someone kills Goliath

• Saul intrigued

• Saul agrees to fight

• Goliath looks at David and curses him

• Philistines flee when Goliath dies at the hand of David

• David tells Saul about previous “kills”

• David accepts the challenge

• David tells Goliath he came in the name of God and Israel

• Knocked him between the eyes with a stone/slingshot combo

• Went after Philistines – main enemy– Drove them out of Israel– Captured their land

• Went after the Canaanites – enemy #2– Captured their land– Many just “gave up”

• Became a united nation
