Preeclampsia

• Preeclampsia is a disorder that occurs only in pregnant women.

• Most commonly shows up after 37 weeks.• Causes blood vessels to constrict.• Can effect many organs and can cause life

threatening problems.

Who is at risk for Preeclampsia

• Family history

• Obesity Prior to pregnancy

• Person carrying more than one baby

• History of Diabetes, Kidney disease, Lupus, or Rheumatoid Arthritis

Symptoms of Preeclamspsia

• High blood pressure

• High level of protein in the urine

• Headaches

• Sudden swelling in the hands, legs and feet.

• Sudden changes in vision

Treatments for Preeclampsia

• Magnesium can be injected into the veins to prevent eclampsia related to seizures.

• Hydralazine or another antihypertensive drug to manage severe elevations of blood pressure.

• Monitoring fluid intake.

Abruptio Placenta

• Placenta is the tissue that joins a mother to her baby.

• When the placenta breaks away from the uterus ahead of time.

• All or only part of the placenta may break away from the uterus.

• Can be dangerous for both the mom and baby.• Can be deadly from lack of food and oxygen.

• Vaginal Bleeding

• Abdomen Pain

• Back Pain

• Early Contractions

• High Blood Pressure

• Heart Disease

• Arthritis

• Drug Abuse

How to Prevent Abruptio Placentae

• Bed rest

• No Heavy Lifting

• Eat healthy
