Starting Photoshop
• Click the Start button on the Windows Vista taskbar, point to All Programs on the Start menu, point to Adobe Photoshop CS2 on the All Programs submenu
• Scroll as necessary and then point to Adobe Photoshop CS3 in the All Programs list
• Click Adobe Photoshop CS3• If the Adobe Photoshop window is not maximized,
double-click its title bar to maximize it

Customizing the Photoshop Window
• Click Window on the Photoshop menu bar, and then point to Workspace on the Window menu
• Click Default Workspace• Right-click the top-left tool in the toolbox• If necessary, click the Rectangular Marquee Tool
to select it

Customizing the Photoshop Window
• Right-click the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) button on the options bar
• Click Reset All Tools• Click the OK button

Opening a Photo
• Insert the CD that accompanies this book into your CD drive. After a few seconds, if Windows displays a dialog box, click its Close button
• With the Photoshop window open, click File on the menu bar
• Click Open. When the Open dialog box is displayed, click the Look in box arrow

Opening a Photo
• Click drive E or the drive associated with your CD• Double-click the Chapter01 folder and then click
the file, Parasailing, to select it• Click the Open button

Saving a Photo
• With your USB flash drive connected to one of the computer’s USB ports, click File on the menu bar
• Click Save As. When the Save As dialog box is displayed, type Parasailing Edited in the File name text box. Do not press the ENTER key after typing the file name
• Click the Save in box arrow and then click USBDISK [F:], or the location associated with your USB flash drive, in the list
• Click the Save button in the Save As dialog box. If Photoshop displays a JPEG Options dialog box, click its OK button

Using the Zoom Tool (Z)
• Click the Zoom Tool (Z) button in the toolbox. Point to the center of the parasail
• Click the parasail

Using the Navigator Palette
• Drag the proxy view area to the top and left

Viewing Rulers
• Click View on the menu bar• Click Rulers

Cropping a Photo
• Click the Crop Tool (C) button on the Tools palette• Using the rulers as guides, drag a rectangle
beginning at the top of the photo, approximately 1 inch from the left edge. Continue dragging right to approximately 5 1⁄8 inches on the horizontal ruler, and down to approximately 3 1⁄4 inches on the vertical ruler. Do not release the mouse button
• Release the mouse button• Press the ENTER key

Selecting All
• Click Select on the menu bar• Click All on the Select menu

Modifying a Border
• Click Select on the menu bar, and then point to Modify
• Click Border on the Modify submenu• In the Border Selection dialog box, type 100 in
the Width box• Click the OK button in the Border Selection dialog
box

Smoothing the Border
• Click Select on the menu bar, and then point to Modify
• Click Smooth on the Modify submenu• In the Smooth Selection dialog box, type 50 in
the Sample Radius box• Click the OK button in the Smooth Selection
dialog box

Filling a Selection
• Click Edit on the menu bar• Click Fill on the Edit menu• Click the Use box arrow in the Fill dialog box• Click White in the Use box list

• Click the Mode box arrow• Click Normal in the list• If necessary, type 100% in the Opacity box• Click the OK button in the Fill dialog box

To Deselect
• Click anywhere in the document window to remove the selection

Saving a Photo with the Same File Name
• Click File on the menu bar• Click Save on the File menu. If Photoshop
displays a JPEG Options dialog box, click the OK button

Resizing the Image
• Click Help on the menu bar• Click Image Size. In the Document Size area,
double-click the value in the Width box and then type 4 to replace the previous value
• Click the OK button• Click the status bar menu button• Point to Show• Click Document Dimensions

Printing a Photo
• Ready the printer according to the printer instructions
• Click File on the menu bar• Click Print One Copy on
the File menu. If Photoshop displays a dialog box about print settings, click the OK button

Saving the Resized Photo
• Click File on the menu bar and then click Save As• When Photoshop displays the Save As dialog box, type Parasailing for Print in the File name box
• If necessary, click the Look in box arrow and then click USBDISK (G:), or the location of your USB flash drive and appropriate folder in the list
• Click the Save button• If Photoshop displays a JPEG Options dialog box, click
the OK button without making any further changes

Saving for Web & Devices
• With the Parasailing Edited photo selected in the work area, click File on the menu bar
• Click Save for Web & Devices• When Photoshop displays the Save For Web
dialog box, if necessary, click the 4-Up tab• Click the Zoom level box arrow• Click Fit on Screen in the list

Saving for Web
• Click the upper-right preview• Click the Colors box arrow• Click 256 in the list• Right-click the upper-right preview• Click Size/Download Time (512 Kbsp Cable/DSL)
in the list

• Click the Image Size tab on the right in the Save for Web settings
• Double-click the Width box and type 500 to replace the width value
• Click the Apply button• Click the Save button

• When the Save Optimized As dialog box is displayed, type Parasailing-for-Web in the File name box
• If necessary, click the Look in box arrow and then click USBDISK (F:), or the location of your USB flash drive and appropriate folder in the list

Using Bridge to View Files
• Click the Go to Bridge button on the options bar• When the Desktop - Adobe Bridge window is
displayed, click the Location box arrow• Click Computer in the List

• Double-click your USB flash drive location• If you created a Chapter01 folder, double-click
the Project01 folder• Click View on the menu bar and then click As

• Click Help on the menu bar• Click Photoshop Help• When the Adobe Help Viewer 1.1 window is
displayed, double-click its title bar to maximize the window
• Click the Search box on the right side of the menu bar and then type Tools palette

Quitting Photoshop
• Point to the Close button on the right side of the Photoshop title bar
• Click the Close button• If Photoshop displays a dialog box asking you to
save changes, click the No button
