Weather and Climate

Carnivores
• Javelina- Road Runner-
Wallaby- Tuatara- Quoll-
Javelina
• Live in large family groups to help with survival.
• Each group defends a territory for sleeping and feeding areas.
• They communicate through smells and sounds.
Wallaby
• Wallaby’s have very sensitive ears.• If being attacked, they use their hind legs and
long tail
Road Runner
• Had feathers to keep it warm on desert winter nights
• Run very fast to escape prey
Tuatara
• Spines along back to protect from predators.• Live in burrows so its hard for bigger animals
to eat them.
Quoll
• In the day they find shelter in caves, rocks or logs
• They save energy by lowering their body temperature.
Biggest threat to Chaparral
• Chaparral’s have fires almost constantly. Some plants need to be burned in order to remain healthy. Also a U.S. Forrest Service cut the area to reduce “fuel” around a tree plantation.

• Good hooves for climbing and walking on rocks
• Vary there diet for different types of plants

• Are able to walk long distances along dried shrubs and rocks
• Strong legs to climb
Deer
• Fast runners to escape predators• Sensitive ears to here predators about to
attack
Buffalo
• Strong legs and hard hooves to fight off predators
• Variety diet so they can eat different grasses
Pigs
• Are able to climb around the chaparral• Good hooves to wonder around long distances
