Analogue films

This is the basic and first way that films were made. Lots of pictures are taken in negative directly after the other.

This is quite a distinct way of shooting films and most people can tell when they have been filmed in an analogue way.

Analogue film has a greater resolution than most digital camera images.

Analogue photography has come to mean “anything that is not digital.”

Digital Films

This is the process of capturing motion pictures as digital video images, as opposed to the historical use of film stock.

As digital technology has improved unprecedentedly in recent years, this practice has become dominant.

Since mid 2010's most of the movies across the world are captured as well as distributed digitally.

Analogue vs Digital

There are a lot of debates about whether digital is better than analogue or not.

Some people claim that you simply can’t reproduce the look, feel and colours of film on any digital camera.

Others say that film simply isn’t worth all the hassle and expense, and would rather use digital filming.

Digital cameras will not handle light as well as film does, and the light will not look as soft and even as it does with film.

These beautiful colours that many people see in professional photographers’ film work are often simply the result of a very good lab developing their film and applying specific colour profiles in the scanning process.  If you cannot afford a good lab or don’t live near one, you may find that you cannot reproduce these results even with the exact same camera, lens and film combination that professionals use.

Distribution Becoming Easier

With most of filming nowadays being digital, it doesn’t take long for media to be transported across to other countries.

The transport of analogue films is physical, they will have to transport the film reel physically to where it wants to be viewed. Also if they wanted it to be distribute to somewhere else they would have to copy the reel and send that one off too.

But now with digital film it can be sent through the internet or via some other 2000s technology. This means that films can be distributed faster and easier.
