Introduction
• Rishi Canak named his son as “Chanakya”.
• Also called Kautilya and Vishnugupta, lived in
Pataliputra in ancient India
• Born in 3rd century BC. Life period said to be 350-275
BCBC
• Politics was his forte. He was a great strategist and
writer.
• Chandragupta Maurya, founder of the Mauryan
Empire was his disciple and used his theories
extensively.
About Chanakya
• Celebrated globally as a shrewd statesman and a
ruthless administrator, he comes across as the
greatest of diplomats of the world.
• He has been often compared to Machiavelli, Aristotle He has been often compared to Machiavelli, Aristotle
and Plato
• His ideas and principles show concurrence and
validity in the present day world.
• His philosophies are of great relevance to
management.

• Arthashastra. Also called Chanakya Sutra is a treatise
on politics, economics and public affairs
