Yes, we have some great events beginning right away. As you will see to your left, there are just too many opportunities to learn and collaborate just in this month alone. I would be remiss if I did not ask you to include in your yearly calendar our flagship events for the year. Namely our annual Dinner Dance in February, the Golf Outing in July, the Ale Fest in September, and Lisle Uncorked and Turkey Trot, both in November. But these are just the tip of the iceberg as pretty much every week, there is a Chamber event to help your business grow. Lastly, I would like you all to consider joining in the coordination (and commit- tees) of these events. I have to admit, jumping in has personally allowed my own business to connect and improve since I have been a part of this great Chamber. I know it will benefit you, as well. I look forward to meeting you all soon. And I also look forward to 2018 being a great year for you too!

CHAIR MESSAGE

Mission Statement “To facilitate, advocate and cultivate opportunities for the Lisle Area Business

Community”

Peter James, Chair

On behalf of the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce Board of

Directors, I would like to officially welcome you to 2018. We

made it! Before we dive in, I would like to take a moment to

thank last year’s Chairman, Michael Toohey, for his exceptional

work and great leadership in 2017. Now, as we turn our attention

to 2018, let’s begin to shift our mindset into the great possibilities

that await us.

As I think about goals for 2018, I like to reflect on the quote, “Great things never

come from your comfort zones.”, which encourages me to continue to step out and

do things that are uncomfortable. Unfortunately, January 1st is usually a time

when we “decide” to make these shifts in our lives (or businesses). I encourage

you all to make everyday your January 1st. Instead of putting pressure on yourself

to “resolve” to do this or that for the new year, begin each day as if its a new

year and plan to do something unique or different for the benefit of growth (in

your life or business).

And of course, the Chamber is here to partner with you and help you grow your

business in this new year. I encourage you to let the Chamber also become part

of your shift. It's super important for you to jump into the activities and events

that are here to expose you and your business to the public and other Chamber

members. So, I would like to challenge you all to be intentional about how the

Chamber can assist you for this year. And don’t hesitate to communicate this to

Jill (our great Executive Director) or myself.

Yes, we have some great events beginning right away. As you will see to your left,

there are just too many opportunities to learn and collaborate just in this month

alone. I would be remiss if I did not ask you to include in your yearly calendar our

flagship events for the year. Namely our annual Dinner Dance in February, the

Golf Outing in July, the Ale Fest in September, and Lisle Uncorked and Turkey

Trot, both in November. But these are just the tip of the iceberg as pretty much

every week, there is a Chamber event to help your business grow.

Lastly, I would like you all to consider joining in the coordination (and commit-

tees) of these events. I have to admit, jumping in has personally allowed my own

business to connect and improve since I have been a part of this great Chamber. I

know it will benefit you, as well. I look forward to meeting you all soon. And I

also look forward to 2018 being a great year for you too!

CHAMBER NEWS

The beginning of a new year always inspires me to start again

with enthusiasm about the possibilities and goals for the Lisle

Area Chamber of Commerce. This Chamber is very active

with great opportunities for you and your business to thrive

in 2018. We will begin on January 10, 2018 with a Multi-

Chamber event with guest speaker Dan Cronin, the Chair of

the DuPage County Board. The Annual State of the Village will

be January 18, 2018 with guest speaker Mayor Christopher

Pecak, Village of Lisle. This will be a great way to connect with Members of

your Chamber and network with other businesses at the Multi-Chamber

luncheon.

Below is an update on the new Tax Cut and Jobs Act.

"The Tax Cut and Jobs Act was passed by Congress and signed by President Trump. The final bill reflects some compromises and is substantially different

than the earlier House and Senate bills. The new law includes many

expected changes, some unexpected ones, and some changes that were

expected but didn’t make the cut.

1. New individual tax rates and brackets

For 2018 through 2025, the new law keeps seven tax brackets, but six are at

lower rates. In 2026, the current-law rates and brackets would return.

2. Higher standard deductions, but no more personal and

dependent exemption deductions

The new law almost doubles the standard deduction amounts, starting in

2018. However, personal and dependent exemption deductions, which

would have been $4,150 each for 2018, are eliminated. Obviously, these

changes will benefit some taxpayers and harm others. If you have many de-

pendents, you may not be pleased. The 2018 standard deduction amounts

are as follows.

• $12,000 for singles (up from $6,350 for 2017)

• $24,000 for joint-filing married couples (up from $12,700)

• $18,000 for heads of households (up from $9,350)

Michael is the President of the Kiwanis Club of Lisle were he coordinates the organization’s different events and charity. He also plays a key role in recruiting new members. He has been involved with the Kiwanis Club of Lisle for 3 years. Michael is also a realtor.
