Member Profile: Archway Station, Inc. 408 North Center Street Cumberland, Maryland 21502 301-777-1700, ext. 119 Fax: 301-722-1209

Archway Station, Inc. is a private 501 (c) (3), non-profit corporation established in 1980. Archway offers person-centered, inclusive, and compassionate community psychiatric rehabilitation services to adults and youth with severe and chronic mental illness as well as adults with developmental disabilities. Archway Station is funded through and licensed by the Behavioral Health Adminis-tration and the Developmental Disabilities Administration. They are also accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). CARF accreditation signals Archway Station’s com-mitment to continually improving services, encouraging feedback, and serving our community with top-quality services to the community’s most vulnerable individuals. Based on the Fountain House model in New York, Archway Station began in the basement of St. John’s Lutheran Church on 4th and Arch Streets as a way to assist people with mental illness with reintegrating into the community from lengthy admissions to the state psychiatric hospitals. They began as a Club House model where folks could come and spend some time, share each other’s company, get support, and a small meal. Archway Station has grown exponentially since then with the support of the Allegany County community.Archway Station provides services to over 300 adults a year at their Wellness Center and in Supported Housing program, over 60 individuals in their residential behavioral health programs, and 25 adults in the Targeted Case Management program, over 80 children, youth, and their families, and 14 adults with developmental disabilities in a residential program.Archway Station’s Supported Housing program serves adults with severe and

chronic mental illness. Trained staff goes to where the person is and provide the support needed. Services include but are not limited to medication monitoring, mental health symptom management and accessing need-ed resources to live day-to-day. Individuals receive about 6 visits per month but can be seen every day if that is what is needed. Their adult behavioral health residential programs offer both 24 hour staff supported and 14 hour a day (no overnight staff) residential programs for adults providing intensive supports with teaching basic daily living skills to be successful in their own home. The average length of stay in these programs is about 18 months before moving to their own apartment with Sup-port Housing services. Their Children, Adolescent, and Young Adult (CAYA) program serves youth between the ages of 3 and 18 and provide supports for social skills development, parenting skills, getting along with others, help with home-work, and many other skills as needed by the child or family. They also provide these supports in the form of on-site groups.Their Targeted Case Management program works with adults, who have no resources, are homeless, have been incarcerated, or have difficulty getting services in the community for a variety of reasons. The Wellness Center provides all service users with the opportunity to socialize with others in a supportive environment, get a meal 3 days a week, develop leisure interests, volunteer in the community, and develop leadership skills.

Archway Station’s Developmental Disa-bilities program provides 24-hour awake staff to adults. Staff assists individuals with basic daily living skills and community integration.Archway Station employs about 140 full and part-time staff. The staff prides them-selves on providing high-quality person-centered care. Depending on services and positions, staff are required to complete medication monitoring or administration training, CPR, First Aid, and meet all monthly in-service training requirements. It takes a dedicated team of staff to make Archway Station the success it has been through the years and a leader in the State of Maryland in the provision of psychiatric rehabilitation services. Archway Station receives referrals from any licensed mental health provider, physician, or nurse practitioner. They also receive referrals from hospitals and legal systems across the State of Maryland. Services are provided in Allegany County. They accept donations of gently used house-hold items, money, or just about anything a person may need to live successfully in their own apartment in the community. They are also always looking for compas-sionate people who love working with others to join their team. For more infor-mation about services or employment, please visit either their website at www.archwaystation.net or Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ArchwayStationInc/
