Our business community has grown at such a rapid pace that nearly all available buildings have been leased and or sold to new users. Some exam- ples include GSA’s recent move into the formerly Alien Technologies building on Butterfield Drive. GSA manufactures wiring intensive sub -assemblies for major household name companies, and are growing as rapidly as people can be hired. Specialized Bike’s continues to acquire properties around Concord Circle to support their growing R&D, dealer support and administrative efforts. Forbes Grill has opened a new family steak house restaurant after re-modeling the location Marie Callender’s vacated earlier this year. The Granary District on Depot Ave in downtown Morgan Hill is now home to two brand new businesses (The Grapevine and Bike Therapy) alongside already popular destinations like Odeum and the Running Shop and Hops. Meanwhile other community supporting facilities like The Huntington senior living center, higher density (and thus lower cost) housing communities and both new and remodeled schools continue to be built and planned. As your Chamber of Commerce we continue to be concerned about ensuring that the overall land use mix between residential, commercial, industrial and office uses be built out in a way which supports the long term health of the community. Now that nearly all of the vacant buildings have been filled, the challenge remains in how to get the new job and tax revenue supporting facilities built to match up with the residential growth. One important aspect of this effort is to make sure that companies know that Morgan Hill is open for businesses, and our city staff and elected officials have made great strides through words and actions to make sure decision makers know we are ready to get things done. This past week we heard unprompted testimonials from GSA, Kettle Cuisine and Creative Manufacturing Solutions about how proactive and helpful the city was with their respective relocation and expansion plans. The first stages of developing a comprehen- sive Economic Development website are also under way as a means to tell Morgan Hill’s very positive story. While we are all working to ensure the future for our community, it is also essential to recognize the people who have been instrumental in getting us this far is so many different ways. One way we do this is by highlighting some extraordinary people and organizations at the annual Celebrate Morgan Hill dinner. Please take a moment to complete one of the nomination forms found on a later page of this newsletter to highlight a person or organization you feel is worthy of this honor. All nominations come from the community, and the difficult job of selecting this year’s winners will be done by winners from the most recent three years. The decision isn’t made by the Chamber staff or board, but by the broader community. Thank you for all you do to make Morgan Hill a terrific place to live, work and play. Morgan Hill sure is a happening place these days. Our business

community has grown at such a rapid pace that nearly all available

buildings have been leased and or sold to new users. Some exam-

ples include GSA’s recent move into the formerly Alien Technologies

building on Butterfield Drive. GSA manufactures wiring intensive sub

-assemblies for major household name companies, and are growing

as rapidly as people can be hired. Specialized Bike’s continues to

acquire properties around Concord Circle to support their growing R&D, dealer support

and administrative efforts. Forbes Grill has opened a new family steak house restaurant

after re-modeling the location Marie Callender’s vacated earlier this year. The Granary

District on Depot Ave in downtown Morgan Hill is now home to two brand new businesses

(The Grapevine and Bike Therapy) alongside already popular destinations like Odeum and

the Running Shop and Hops. Meanwhile other community supporting facilities like The

Huntington senior living center, higher density (and thus lower cost) housing communities

and both new and remodeled schools continue to be built and planned.

As your Chamber of Commerce we continue to be concerned about ensuring that the

overall land use mix between residential, commercial, industrial and office uses be built

out in a way which supports the long term health of the community. Now that nearly all of

the vacant buildings have been filled, the challenge remains in how to get the new job

and tax revenue supporting facilities built to match up with the residential growth. One

important aspect of this effort is to make sure that companies know that Morgan Hill is

open for businesses, and our city staff and elected officials have made great strides

through words and actions to make sure decision makers know we are ready to get things

done. This past week we heard unprompted testimonials from GSA, Kettle Cuisine and

Creative Manufacturing Solutions about how proactive and helpful the city was with their

respective relocation and expansion plans. The first stages of developing a comprehen-

sive Economic Development website are also under way as a means to tell Morgan Hill’s

very positive story.

While we are all working to ensure the future for our community, it is also essential to

recognize the people who have been instrumental in getting us this far is so many

different ways. One way we do this is by highlighting some extraordinary people and

organizations at the annual Celebrate Morgan Hill dinner. Please take a moment to

complete one of the nomination forms found on a later page of this newsletter to highlight

a person or organization you feel is worthy of this honor. All nominations come from the

community, and the difficult job of selecting this year’s winners will be done by winners

from the most recent three years. The decision isn’t made by the Chamber staff or board,

but by the broader community.

Thank you for all you do to make Morgan Hill a terrific place to live, work and play.

Morgan Hill City Council unanimously approved a Magical Bridge Playground in Community Park, committing to obtain $2 million in funding for the playground. The City of Morgan Hill will partner with Magical Bridge Foundation this fall to apply for a Santa Clara County Matching Grant for an additional $2 million. It will be the first inclusive playground in the stretch between San Jose and Salinas.

The road to Magical Bridge Playground in Morgan Hill will be paved by many over the next year. But the first trail was blazed by Shirlee and Ron Locicero's lifelong commitment to all children as teachers and volunteers.

Visit Magical Bridge Playground in Morgan Hill for information about the playground and ways to support the project. If your company, foundation or community group would like to partner with Magical Bridge Foundation, kindly contact Jill Asher at [email protected].

Thank you to our

TASTE OF MORGAN HILL SPONSORS!!

IT WAS AN EXCELLENT EVENT. See you next year!
