As we come to the close of another year, it’s time to reflect, but more importantly time to look forward to new and exciting times. At the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce (WRCC), we are always changing to meet the collective needs of our members. Recently we asked for input via our annual member survey. This input is very important to us, and we take it to heart. The survey results have been steady since we started using it as a tool for input four years ago. However, one result that we are very proud of is the percentage of people who would recommend the WRCC to others is the highest it has ever been. I’ve been here in my position for a year now and have been pleasantly overwhelmed by the kindness and support of people in this community. Our role as staff at the WRCC is to serve our members—a job we take seriously and with a lot of passion. The Aspirus Health Foundation held its annual “Partners in Health” honored Margaret Anderson, M.D., as the Foundation’s 2014 Physician Champion for her outstanding contributions to physical medicine and rehabilitative medicine, as well as spine and neurological care at Aspirus. San and Joanne Orr were recognized as the Foundation’s 2014 Community Champions for their commitment to supporting programs and initiatives which have significantly impacted the lives of people in our community. Becher-Hoppe Associates, Inc., a Wausau based Engineering and Architecture firm, hosted Professor Mike Zach of UW Stevens Point for a nanotechnology presentation. Professor Zach has conducted industry leading research in the creation of nano wires to aid the construction industry. The nano wire network has potential to predict structural stress and allow for earlier remedial action. Awareness of emerging technologies across industries allows the Becher Hoppe team of consulting engineers, architects, surveyors, and real estate specialists to continue its 60-year history of providing a wide spectrum of quality professional services to government, business, and individuals.

The Behavioral Health Clinic of Wausau will be sponsoring a series of free Depression Screening and Awareness Days in November and December. The City of Wausau Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee has received funding from the Capital Improvement and Street Maintenance Committee to purchase bike racks in 2015. The committee will continue to work with Northcentral Technical College,

Wausau West, and Wausau East to reproduce some of the bike racks that were part of the design contest in 2014. The Bike/Ped Committee has determined several future bike rack locations on public right-of-way, but we also want to give businesses within the Wausau city limits the opportunity to request bike racks to be placed on public right-of-way. The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin recognized George C. and Estelle B. Wolff with the Spirit of Philanthropy Award at the George L. Ruder Forum reception Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Wausau Country Club. The Community Foundation acknowledges the Wolff’s for their leadership, vision, generosity, service, integrity, and selfless dedication to this community.

The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin’s George L. Ruder Forum is proud to present Dr. Jeremi Suri: “The Living Legacy of the Greatest Generation.” Jeremi Suri holds the Mack Brown Distinguished Chair for Leadership in Global Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a professor in the University’s Department of History and the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. Professor Suri’s research and teaching have received numerous prizes, including his selection as a Wisconsin Academy Fellow.

Domtar Paper promotes Kathy Collins to General Manager – Rothschild Mill. Kathy joined Domtar-Rothschild in 2013 as Manager – Environmental, Health and Safety. Prior to Domtar, Kathy spent more than twenty years at NewPage and MeadWestvaco Corporation in roles including: Fiber Lines Superintendent, Lean Six Sigma Trainer, Environmental Manager and Engineer. Kathy is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where she earned her degree in Chemical Engineering.

The Green Bay Packers and WPS Health Insurance paid special tribute to Sgt. Michael Kimmerling during Sunday’s Packers-Bears game for Operation Fan Mail. Kimmerling, originally from Phelps, Wisconsin, enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps in December 2006 and graduated from the School of Infantry – West as a meritorious lance corporal and machine gunner. After his first two deployments to Iraq in 2008 and Afghanistan in 2009, he re-enlisted and attended Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) School in February of 2011. After graduating, he spent two deployments in Afghanistan as an EOD Technician in 2012 and 2014. Horace Mann Middle School Physical Education Teacher Ken Smith has received the Board Resolution

of Commendation Award for being named the 2014 Wisconsin Health and Physical Education Middle School Teacher of the Year.

All ten women are members of the Wausau Chapter of IAAP. IAAP is the world’s largest association for administrative professionals, providing career information, education, networking opportunities and certification programs.

Keller, Planners, Architects and Builders, a design/build general contractor with offices in Wausau, Madison, Milwaukee and the Fox Cities, will build an 8,430 square foot classroom addition and remodel for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church under the direction of Keller Project Manager, Vern Nystrom. Pastor Al Moen is building an addition and remodeling the church to better serve the members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

KELLER, Inc., a Design/Build General Contractor with offices in the Fox Cities, Madison, Milwaukee and Wausau announces the promotion of Sarah Vande Hey to Office Coordinator. Vande Hey has 13 years of experience with Keller which includes previous positions of Accounting Assistant and most recently Receptionist. As the recently promoted Office Coordinator, she will continue to be our main point of contact at the front desk along with the coordination of all Keller offices in our Wausau, Germantown and Sun Prairie locations.

Audrey Mueller, CAP, senior administrative assistant at Liberty Mutual Insurance, has achieved recertification of the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) rating from the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP).

Mueller is a member of the Wausau Chapter of IAAP. The prestigious CAP designation certifies that an individual carries a high level of knowledge and mastery of the administrative support profession.

Laurie Prochnow attended Management Recruiters Manager’s Conference held in Orlando Florida. At the conference Laurie was inducted into the prestigious Ring of Honor which recognizes with 25 years or more of associate with the franchise. Laurie has owned the Wausau office for over 20 years and has consistently ranked in the top 25% of Offices. The office is located at 3309 Terrace Court.

Sheriff Scott Parks announces the promotion of Detective Jeffrey Stefonek to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Stefonek joined the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department in February, 2005 and was promoted to Detective in November, 2010. Lieutenant Stefonek recently completed a 120 hour Leadership in Police Organizations course which will allow him to work effectively in his new role. Jeff currently serves on the Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team (SWAT) and the Sniper Team. Lieutenant Stefonek will be an excellent asset to the Patrol Division where he will be assigned.

Adedayo Onitilo, who practices at Marshfield Clinic Weston Center and Marshfield Clinic Cancer Care at Ministry/Saint Michael’s Hospital, Stevens Point, was honored during in a program at the Froehlke Auditorium, Melvin R. Laird Center, Marshfield Clinic, Marshfield. This is the first time two people will receive the fellowship in a single year. The fellowship has been given by D. David “Dewey” Sebold, who resides in Medford, since 1988 to recognize an outstanding medical researcher and support continued research in his or her field.

Kirsten Vetterkind, a certified family nurse practitioner, joined Marshfield Clinic Wittenberg Center in November. In her practice, Vetterkind provides complete family health care for all ages and has a special interest in women’s health, urology and dermatology. Originally from Wisconsin’s Northwoods, she completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, nursing degree from Northland College, Ashland, and master’s degree in family health nursing from UW-Eau Claire.

Ministry Health Care and Ministry Medical Group are pleased to welcome Keshani Bhushan, MD, who recently joined the hospitalist department at Ministry Saint Clare’s Hospital, Weston. Hospitalists are a team of specially trained physicians and advanced practice clinicians who manage a full spectrum of serious illnesses and specialize in coordinating care around the clock while patients are hospitalized. Dr. Bhushan earned her medical degree from Sawai Man Singh Medical College in Jaipur, India. She completed and internship and residency at the State University of New York (SUNY) in Buffalo, N.Y. Dr. Bhushan also holds a master’s in public health from SUNY, Buffalo.

For nearly 30 years, Judy Sudbury of Mosinee has been a hospice volunteer. Her family’s use of hospice

motivated her to become a member of the hospice team and for her countless hours of service she has been recognized by The Hospice Organization and Palliative Experts (HOPE) of Wisconsin as one of two volunteers of the year. For the past 15 years, Sudbury has volunteered with Ministry Home Care-Hospice in Wausau.

Darci Mick Beversdorf, Wausau School District elementary physical education teacher and former PEP grant project coordinator, received a 2014 Wisconsin Health & Physical Education (WHPE) Citation Award for her work in revising and enhancing the District’s K-12 physical education curriculum.

Director of Special Education Tammy Nyen was named Wisconsin Council of Administrators of Special Services (WCASS) Outstanding Special Services Administrator. Nyen received her award last week at the WCASS Membership Meeting held during the State Superintendent’s Conference on Special Education and Pupil Services Leadership Issues. With this recognition, the WCASS Board

of Directors will nominate Nyen for the Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE) Outstanding Administrator of Special Education Award. Nyen also received the WCASS Region 7 Administrator Award in May 2014, which encompasses Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESAs) 9 and 12. Nyen has been the District’s Director of Special Education for five years.

The Wisconsin Health Ministries of Ascension Health are pleased to announce Daniel E. Neufelder has been appointed Ministry Health Care President and CEO, effective December 1, 2014. Three distinct exhibitions featuring iconic photographs from “National Geographic” magazine, etchings by American artist James McNeill Whistler, and masks donned by Wausau-area ballet dancers opened on Saturday, November 22, at the Woodson Art Museum. All three exhibitions will remain on view through February 22, 2015. Whether captured amid split-second serendipity or lengthy preparation, “50 Greatest National Geographic Photographs” are some of the most compelling from the magazine’s more-than-120-year history.

WPS Health Insurance and QuadMed today announced the launch of Intellicare, a combined solution to help businesses improve their employees’ access to high-quality, cost-effective health care focused on positive outcomes. As employers look for appropriately priced health plans in the era of The Affordable Care Act, WPS and QuadMed recognize Wisconsin employers need alternative options. WPS is doing a significant hiring wave for its Wausau office as part of a new program for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. WPS currently is a subcontractor for TriWest Healthcare Alliance of Phoenix for the Patient-Centered Community Care (PC3) program in 28 states. WPS expects to hire approximately 100 employees in Wausau in November for the Choice Card program. Hiring could reach 280 employees with about 250 of them in Wausau and the rest in Madison.

Sara Gast is the youngest of six children; she was raised on a family dairy farm in Northeastern Wisconsin and moved to Central Wisconsin in 1999. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. In 2004, Sara moved to Wausau and was employed in the accounting field. That was until 2007, when an opportunity with American Family steered her into the insurance industry. For the past seven years, she has been a consultant on a variety of topics (sales, marketing, customer retention, and more) to American Family agents and their agency staff within a 10-12 county radius. She is licensed with the State of Wisconsin for Casualty, Property, Health and Life lines of business. She is currently going to school at Northcentral Technical College to pursue a Lean Six Sigma Certificate. One of her goals for 2015 is to obtain the American Standard of Quality’s Green Belt Six Sigma designation.

Sara has been a Chamber volunteer for over three months. She started as an Ambassador and has volunteered to help at events such as the Annual Meeting and Business PMs. She is also on the newly formed Chamber committee that is planning a Women’s Professional Conference for 2015. Sara is excited to help with Small Business Week and the Business EXPO in April of 2015.

Sara enjoys being a Chamber volunteer because it is a great way to not only network with professionals she already has the pleasure of knowing, but she also gets to make new connections. It’s in her nature to make people feel welcome and comfortable, so she enjoys wearing the red blazer and doing what she can to make it a great event for attendees. Sara believes in this community and feels even the few hours
