A Letter from the
President’s Desk
2013 has been a great year for the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce. Our meeting attendance has increased and we have more members actively participating. We are doing so many wonderful things for the community. By the time you’re reading this, our “Welcome to Baldwin” sign at the north Grand Avenue Fire Department should have been installed. We hope to continue with the sign installation at several other major arteries in Baldwin. Our beautification projects are ongoing as well. Tom Owens of Evergreen Landscape Design has taken the Foxhurst Avenue and Grand Avenue intersection to a new level and has brightened up a once neglected area. The summer picnic is an extraordinary community event that we are proud to coordinate for the residents of Baldwin. Please patronize the chamber members who make this all possible. Baldwin has been thriving with many new businesses opening their doors this year. It is wonderful that people are investing in our community. Please show them your support and shop Baldwin first!

June Meeting Recap
On Tuesday June 11, the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce met at Sonny's Canal House in Baldwin. Sonny's Canal House was also our Business
of the Month and we are happy to have them back, after Hurricane Sandy poured over 6 feet of water into their business. It was a well attended
meeting, with over 60 people present and John and Chrissy Moore hosted a wonderful dinner. The Chamber announced that a new ‘Welcome to
Baldwin’ sign is to be installed shortly at the Baldwin Fire Department on northern Grand Ave. The sign project is going well and our landscape
beautification projects are looking better every day, as the flowers are bursting into full color and brightening up our neighborhood. Our first Guest
Speaker was Laura Curran, who presented details regarding the School Board Budget Re-vote. After her informative presentation, Superintendent
Jim Scannell answered questions. County Executive Ed Mangano and various County Representatives were also in attendance and presented
some of their accomplishments including saving the county over $290 million by cutting wasteful spending and not raising taxes. They were
available for Q&A and it was a very informative session. We are pleased to have two of our Chamber of Commerce members running for Nassau
County Legislator in the 5th District- Laura Curran (Resident Member) and Debbie Pugliese (Board of Directors/Secretary/Resident Member). We
are confident that both of these women will effectively represent Baldwin's interests and we wish them both much success in their campaigns.
Member Spotlight: Coral House, for over seven decades, the quintessential Long Island catering and special event facility, was
purchased and subsequently renovated by the Dover Group, the New York catering firm behind the successful re-emergence of
the iconic Malibu Shore Club and The Sands of Lido Beach on Long Island’s south shore. Renovations were extensive and are
still being done but the results are successful and Coral House was restored to its current impeccable physical state.
Masterminded by principal and owner Butch Yamali and his team at Dover, Coral House has once again achieved prominence among Long Island
and New York metro area and is again viewed by residents, business groups, and civic and religious organizations as a source for reliable, quality
catering for affairs of all sizes and themes. Each member of the Coral House’s experienced staff is committed to one thing: offering every
customer and guest the highest level of personalized service.

Mahler Reality is a third generation family
owned business here in Baldwin. They
were established originally by Eric
Mahler’s grandfather. Eric and his wife
Traci are now the proud broker/owners of
the company. Mahler Realty is
celebrating their 60th Anniversary and
Grand Re-Opening after Sandy and we
are happy that they stayed and continue
to operate in Baldwin.
Guerriere Family Chiropractic is
celebrating their 25th anniversary! We are
glad that they were able to rebuild for a
second time; first, after having 18 inches of
water during Hurricane Irene, and now,
after having 5 feet of water in parts of their
office during Sandy. Dr. Mike temporarily
relocated to his original office on Merrick
Road and they are now back home on
Milburn Avenue. We are so very happy that
he stayed in Baldwin after both of these
storms come through his business.

We all know how hard it is to open a business these days, but imagine having a thriving business and
having to start all over again through no fault of your own. That is what happened to many Baldwin
businesses after Sandy struck our area. You can call it a hurricane or a superstorm, but regardless, it was
devastating. Whether you had 6 feet of water or 6 inches of water, when your computers or files are
destroyed, it is very hard to get back to business as usual. Our hearts especially go out to those
businesses who just rebuilt after Hurricane Irene. We commend all of the business that stayed in Baldwin
and truly appreciate our great neighborhood. Congratulations to Mahler Realty and Guerriere Family
Chiropractic on their noteworthy anniversaries and thank you for continuing to make Baldwin a great place
to live!!! If you rebuilt after Sandy and will be holding a Re-Opening Celebration, please let us know.
