Serving as your board chair these past 2 years has been a privilege and an honor. I have overcome challenges put before me with only a few scrapes and bruises (I was told later it was part of the job). I have also been fortunate enough to have made good friends and lasting memories along the way. I want to say thank you to the Board of Directors who have shown great leadership in

guiding and growing the chamber. I want to recognize and say thanks to our volunteers, chamber members and sponsors who have supported our chamber all these years. I now hand the gavel over to the chambers incoming Board Chair Linda Hester. Linda brings with her great leadership skills and a good sense of humor which I feel are essential as a Board Chair. Linda is a lot of fun and I know the chamber will enjoy having her as their Board Chair. It has been an honor being the Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce Board Chair.

Great beginnings start in great communities

icture Temple Terrace in the 1960’s when Busch Gardens, a bird garden and admission-free hospitality facility offering free beer tastings, was just a few years old. Three miles down the road on 56th Street in Temple Terrace was an American gas station, recently opened by James (Jim) Stepp, who selected that very spot to begin building his reputation as an industry pioneer and icon in the towing business.

Jim purchased his first tow truck from Oscar Weeks. One truck led to another, and now, nearly 60 years later, Stepp’s Towing has grown to a fleet of over 300 vehicles, making it one of the largest towing companies in the United States.

Imagine the surprise many moons ago when Jim arrived in a tow truck to escort a young lady on their first date. That lady later became his wife, Judy Stepp.

Calling all Artists & Crafters to the 46th Arts & Crafts Festival

Talented artists and crafters are invited to beautiful, historic Woodmont Park, where art and nature intertwine, creating an enchanting atmosphere to showcase one-of-a-kind treasures. Many artists will

choose to participate in a juried competition for prizes which award their creativity and dedication to sharing their visual viewpoint. For two days, November 9-10, holiday, gift, and home shoppers may choose to purchase work from over a hundred artists while enjoying free admission, free parking,

free live entertainment, tasty food truck offerings (not free), partake in free public art, or relax under a majestic canopy of trees while debating the finer points of pointillism on a Sunday afternoon.

The Temple Terrace Arts Council has been partnering with young artists from ten K-5 schools for the past 21 years on a project called Fresh Views. A portfolio is delivered to each school with instructions for how to mount teacher-

selected artwork from 30 students, which are exhibited for 2 days at the Arts and Crafts Festival. Students who exhibit receive an honor ribbon and a chance to win a fabulous art kit. Professional judges select 1st and 2nd place

winners from each school who receive special recognition and prizes. Students love seeing their entries prominently displayed and are eager to show family and friends their artwork.

Last year a cell phone photography exhibit was added, Fresh Takes, which guided students to use their phones as an instrument for art. Woodmont Middle School, Greco Middle School, and Hillel Academy Middle School

students rose to the challenge and the outcome was a phenomenal success!

We enjoy working with teachers to bring this special event to our community which proudly displays more than 350 works of student art and of course, we love our artists and crafters from 13 states and 92 zip codes. Many artists are from the Tampa Bay area! Without our artists and crafters the festival would not be possible.

Witness for yourself all the amazing art November 9-10, at beautiful, historic Woodmont Park, 407 Woodmont Avenue, 10am-4pm daily. Volunteers, sponsors, donations are appreciated!

Although there are many non-profit organizations that are helping victims and survivors of domestic violence, Reach Out Speak Out sees a great need to help women and children within faith-based organizations. Women of faith are afraid that the church will not understand what is going on in the home. The abuser may be in a position of leadership and no one would believe her. The abuser is a totally different person at home than at a house of worship. Reach Out Speak Out has ongoing needs for the families we are helping. Our families stay with Reach Out Speak Out via our 5-year program. Most times, they leave with very little or nothing at all. The Reach Out Speak Out program is as follows: Year #1: Monthly assistance with groceries, clothing, bedding, household goods, gas, counseling, etc. and we make sure that their children have birthday gifts and Christmas gifts. Year #2: Bi-monthly assistance with groceries, clothing, bedding, household goods, gas, counseling, etc. and we make sure that their children have birthday gifts and Christmas gifts. Year #3: Quarterly assistance, same as above and children’s birthday and Christmas gifts. Year #4: Twice a year same as above, counseling as needed, birthday and Christmas gifts. Year #5: Once a year all of the above and the survivor is expected to begin helping Reach Out Speak Out with time and speaking at events.

How Can You Help: We are always asked about ways to help Reach Out Speak Out . There are many ways to be of assistance.

● One way is to allow us to speak at your office or community organization to help us spread awareness. ● Another way is an individual fundraiser (car wash, bake sale, garage/yard sale, etc.). These MUST be

approved by our Board of Directors to be sanctioned by Reach Out Speak Out . ● If you are an Amazon shopper, you can use Amazon Smile and a percentage of your purchase is

donated to the charity of your choice, just select Reach Out Speak Out by going to smile.amazon.com. ● In addition to the above ways, we also have a Scrip Program where you can purchase gift cards that

you use on a regular basis or plan to give as a gift. This does not cost you anything above the face value of the gift card. A percentage is donated to our non-profit. Of course, we are always in need of gas gift cards, grocery store/Walmart gift cards for perishable items, change for laundromats, laundry and cleaning supplies, feminine hygiene products, toiletries.

● If you have the means, we can always use donations of services like, auto repairs, oil changes, electrical or plumbing repairs, locksmiths, dry cleaning, hair salons and even restaurant gift cards for the occasional outing for our families.

● Does your business have a matching donation program? Ask your business if they have a matching funds program. Example: If you give $25 per month, your company will match your donation and will send Reach Out Speak Out a check for $50.

● Get involved with Reach Out Speak Out . We only require 30 hours each year. That is only 2.50 hour per month.
