•Homestay at Kota Klias started in 2002 due to the motivation by MP to get extra income and as a part of Community Based eco-tourism (CBET)•Then in 2005 external operators came in to the Kota Klias

OBJECTIVES
• To identify issues and challenges faced by the stakeholders
• To recommend possible sustainable solutions that benefit the stakeholders
• To identify the roles of local leaders in coordinating and promoting eco-tourism and homestay in Kota Klias
•Community based tourism emphasizes on the empowerment of the local communities
•An important tool for social-economic development of rural communities, poverty reduction and heritage conservation
•CBT labelled as a ‘tourism with soul’ and ‘communitarianism over
commercialization’•Several challenges arise when implementing the community-based tourism model• lack of knowledge• limited marketing skills

• Attractions at the mangrove, Probosis monkey, firefly, culture, local products etc.
• Packages include lunch dinner at the jetty.
