•World Health Organization - hunger is the single gravest threat to the world's public health

•Malnutrition is by far the biggest contributor to child mortality, present in half of all cases•Six million children die of hunger every year

Page 3: [Challenge:Future] Famine

•Almost 40% of the world's agricultural land is seriously degraded•Increased farming for use in biofuels is causing higher prices•Water deficits have a strong impacts on harvests

•Persistence of pesticides is leading to soil contamination and decline of area available for farming•Sudden climate changes•Overpopulation•War

•In spite of the much greater technological and economic resources of the modern world, famine still strikes many parts of the world, mostly in the developing nations.•Around 925 million under- or malnourished people in the world in 2010

The chances of saving lives are greatly reduced when food is imported. By the time it arrives in the country and gets to people, many will have die

Massive food shipments sent to Somalia in 1992 had little impact on the outcome of the famine

Giving cash or cash vouchers instead of food is a cheaper, faster, and more efficient way to deliver help to the hungry, but how long can it last

Page 6: [Challenge:Future] Famine

Teach the hungry to grow their own food crops, so that they can feed themselves.

Conduct training programs in income-generating activities such as farming, gardening, animal breeding, and food conservation

Conducting worldwide action to secure sustainable food resources and sufficient food levels is an imperative.

Sending food and/or money is just a short term solution.

Modern technologies can help developing new food production methods that can prevent major starvation.

Sustainable agriculture is the long term solution.

Developed countries must take action and help other regions develop, and by doing that makefamine history and prevent it from appearing even in richest parts of the world

In one of the largest food producing countries in the world, the United States, approximately one out of six people are "food insecure", including 17 million children.

No matter how big or rich your country may seem, everyone is in danger.

OBESITY has more attention than STARVATION
