Employ Ability Skills Program
Employ Ability Skills has been running since 2006 and currently holds 9 participants per program. Programs run roughly every 15 weeks with three happening each year.
Our Employ Ability Skills Program boasts a wide variety of employment based skill building opportunities through the on-site work opportunities, the classroom setting and discussions, and the opportunity to obtain certain certificates.
Who We Are
About UsWe are a program based department of Challenge DRG which provides employment based skills opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment. Our program offers on-site work experience and classroom opportunities to build employment based skills for those starting out in, or returning to, the workplace.
Our program is funded through the Advanced Education branch of the Yukon Government as well as through the Opportunities Fund – Wage Subsidies through Service Canada. The support of our funders allows us to continue offering employment skill building to Yukoners.

The Specific of Programs
Certificates
The certificate opportunities through our program include Emergency First Aid, Workplace Hazardous Materials Index System (WHMIS) and Food Safe.
Our classroom
Classroom sessions are held in the afternoons, following time spent on the work sites, and is facilitated by our job coaches. Job coaches will host discussions regarding workplace skills, such as attendance and appearance, all the way to self-care and how to take care of yourself outside of work, to be productive on the job.
Our Work SitesCurrently we offer on-site experience in Bridges Café, Twisted Wood Works and the Challenge Greenhouse
Bridges Café offers training in the food service industry through tasks such as catering, food preparation, till operations and customer service
Twisted Wood Works offers training in a wood working setting through tasks such as painting, sanding, building various wood work items
Challenge Greenhouse offers a relaxed setting which focuses on the art of growing through tasks such as developing planter boxes, growing vegetables, sprouting and building that green thumb!

Our job coaches collaborate with local businesses to offer a spectrum of employment based information and build relationships with community resources. Some additional discussions opportunities might include:
