Organic agriculture

Organic - For a wine to be labelled Organic the grapes must be sourced from a vineyard that follows Organic viticulture. This means no conventional pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or fertilisers can be used in the wine growing and making process, all substances used in the production of the grapes must be naturally occurring.

Preservative free / low preservative

Sulphur Dioxide (preservative 220) occurs naturally in all wine, grape juice contains about 10-50 grams per litre. So no wine is actually 100% preservative free. Most modern wineries add additional preservative 220 to keep their wines fresh. Preservative free/low preservative wines have no additional sulphur added during the production process.

Biodynamic

Requires a much greater commitment from the wine grower and is often referred to as “supercharged organics”. Rather than simply reducing chemical inputs, biodynamics is a proactive attempt to bring life to the soil by the use of composts and organic preparations. Practices take into account the seasons as well as lunar and solar rhythms.
