Since 1976, Bob has been collecting our taxes. Bob attended Chalfant School K-7, and graduated from Turtle Creek High School in 1958. His service to the borough started as a paper boy, walking the unpaved streets and sparsely populated hillsides. From 1962 – 1968, Bob served as Justice of the Peace in Chalfant; at that time he was the youngest in the U.S. As the borough’s barber since 1964, many residents of Chalfant and the surrounding areas had their first hair-cut from him. When you sit and talk with Bob, he can tell you stories from when his father served on council to who lived when and where in the borough to one of his prouder achievements of bowling a 300 on January 17, 1979. Bob is very active in the democratic party, along with his sister Joanne, who have known the political comings and goings of this borough for many years. I would consider Bob a true historian of Chalfant. Bob’s true love and dedication to Chalfant Borough is one that is rarely seen these days. If you see Robert, take the time to talk to him and thank him for proudly serving our community. 53 YEARS OF SERVICE……..THANKS! ANNUAL OCCUPANCY REPORT

COMMUNITY CENTER AVAILABLE FOR RENT

Planning a family reunion or other special event? The Community Center is available to Chalfant residents. The cost to rent the center is $175.00. A security deposit of $100.00 will be returned if there is no damage and the center is left clean. For rental information or to book a date, please contact Doris Libell at 412-824-4295.

ELECTRONIC WASTE RECYCLING

Denition of electronic waste- If it has a cord and is not a kitchen appliance, it is “e-waste”. (Ex: televisions, computers and anything that goes with them, including the cables ). Chalfant council is setting up a space to accept e-waste at the public works garage on the Rossmore Street side of the borough building. Please contact a council representative to schedule a drop-o time. Council has made arrangements to have the e-waste recycled for free. In addition, garbage collection will not be aected until Memorial Day Weekend.

As of January 24, 2013 Waste Management will no longer take electronic items that have been left at the curb.

BOROUGH TAX MILLAGE Once again, council is pleased to announce that the budget for 2013 was created and will not require a change in our tax millage.

Council was also able to avoid increasing the sewer surcharge that helps fund repairs to and maintenance of our sewer system.

Old Man Winter has arrived, and with that comes the snowfall. Residents are reminded that borough ordinance (Chapter 21, section 321) requires that:

Sidewalks are shoveled within 24 hours of a snowfall. We ask that property owners do their best to clear a path for the safety of pedestrians and school children.

When shoveling your sidewalk and/or driveway, DO NOT shovel the snow into the street

In the event of a signicant snowfall, if you have a driveway, please park there in order for our snowplows to clear snow more eectively.

If there is a re hydrant near your home, please assist our volunteers by removing snow from around the hydrant.

If you are planning to be away from your home during the winter months for a period of time, you must make arrangements to have your property maintained. The borough will enforce the ordinance and we ask that all residents comply.
