• Followed up with Skål member who recently received funds from FVF to see how was doing and if any further help was needed. He advised club was thinking of starting a go fund me page for his additional expenses

• Had phone meeting with ISC Vice President Denise Scrafton to discuss online auction for items not bid high enough at World Congress and how to get them listed on the SI website for members around the world to bid.

• Participated in Executive Committee November Meeting

• Sent letter of thanks to Skål Colorado for generous donation to FVF

• Sent letter to all Skål USA Presidents and Skål USA Representatives urging donation to the FVF before the end of the year.

• Have been asked to lead an ISC Committee to look into electronic voting for SI. This is a huge step for the organization even to consider.

• Worked with Skål Boston to finalize plans for their 80th Anniversary and also the Skål USA Winter EC Meeting

• Discussed with Denis Smith of Skål Canada how we can push registration for NASC Hawaii. A flyer is being worked on with Hawaii club to send out in early December

• Working with Skål Miami to insure the official meeting of the World Congress are handled properly

• November 22 leave for vacation in Italy. Will return in time for December EC meeting

NASC 2019 Hawaii

Skål Hawaii opened their Facebook page and I’ve added over 400 members. I’ve asked Pam Davis and Jennifer Tom to keep posting every week to build interest and secure more registrations.

Skal World Congress 2019 I continue to post new, interesting photos and videos about the Symphony of the Seas. I will also post items about the various destinations and ports we will visit on the cruise.

Membership Activity

I submitted five new member applications for Skål Northern New Jersey. Also submitted 2 new applications for Skål Fresno to bring them to 15 members. I helped Skål Chicago, Skål New Orleans and Skål Portland, and Skål Southwest Florida with membership issues.

Public Relations and Communications

During the past month, my schedule was focused on events in China, including

the Chongqing Travel Agent Conference and the International Advertising

Institute Travel Awards in Beihai, where I was a featured speaker on

comparative travel industry marketing comparing the United States with China.

End of year release.

During this trip, it was possible to prepare an end of year press release for

distribution on the growth and accomplishments of Skal USA.

Support for the funding of Brand USA

Via email, a request was received from US Travel to support the continued

appropriation of receipts from the ESTA (Electronic System for Travel

Authorization) fees to fund Brand USA. Since Skal International USA had

already taken a position on this issue, our name was added to the letters going to

Congress to get this done during the current lame duck session.

Unfortunately, my schedule and returning with a slight cold from the forty hour

trip home prevented attending any Skal events this month. There are no Skal

events at this time in China and my health was not conducive to attending our

local meeting the day after my arrival home.

Club visits

No Club visits in November

Central California Club restart / update

• Happy to report that the October membership event was successful and they now have the

required 15 members to officially reactivate the Club. Will be working with Jackie on getting all

the required paperwork submitted to Spain in time to make the Club official in December.

Savannah update

• Heard from Troy earlier this month. He has been traveling but has expressed an interest to start

focusing on getting this Club up and running. Should have more news in the next couple of

weeks.

Lexington update

• Heard from Catherine Prater from NTA – she has been very busy the last couple of months but

she is still actively recruiting for members and has commitments from 9 plus her so far. We will

be doing a conference call soon to discuss a strategy to get up to the minimum of 20 for a new

Club and a timeline for making that happen. 1st quarter 2019 is a reasonable target start date.

Membership update

• As of 11/26/18 we have 1995 members in Skål USA – up from 1942 on 10/1/18. This includes

1975 active members and 20 active individual members.

- Contacting those clubs that have pending members to get them into the system to increase

membership numbers for year end.

- Met with Skal Tampa and Skal Orlando Young Skal Leaders and Tampa President to discuss

creating a template for other Clubs to utilize to promote young Skal and Yong Skal Professional

Programs. Between the two clubs there are currently 22 Young Skal Professionals and 5 Young

Skal Students. Notes are circulated and next step is to create a framework to communicate to

other Clubs. Definitely a promising outlook based on the enthusiasm of these clubs.

This overview, along with the following end of October, 2018 financial reports, will be posted on Skål USA’s website by

end of business Friday, 16 November, 2018:

• Balance Sheet as of 31 October, 2018

• Year to Date vs. Same Time Last Year Expanded Profit & Loss (YTD vs. STLY P&L) as of 31 October, 2018

• Year to Date Income & Expenses vs. 2018 Year End Budget as of 31 October, 2018

• Accounts Receivable Aging Report as of 31 October, 2018

Balance Sheet:

• As also reflected on the Accounts Receivable Aging Report, the negative $9,797 is due primarily to the $500 credit to those clubs who had a voting member attend the AGM in May.

• As noted on this report, current Cash-On-Hand totals $307,526 o $54,166 in checking and savings o $253,360 in CD’s with maturity dates during the last three months of the calendar year

• We continue to have an additional $60,000 which has been loaned to SI Miami (with interest) to secure space for the 2019 SI World Congress Cruise

o This amount is to be repaid on or before early January, 2019

• As mentioned in past Financial Reports, based on revenue received to date and anticipated expenses for the rest of the year, expenses for the year will outpace revenue

o Details of expenses to revenue are reflected in the enclosed YTD P&L

2018 YTD vs. STLY Profit & Loss:

• Skål USA membership dues received to date are $5,410 (4.0%) below the amount received at this time last year.

• Total income to date is also below STLY by $15,005 (5.8%)

• While expenses to date are $36,136 (16.5%) higher than STLY.

o The $2,241 in 2018 “Miscellaneous Revenue” is from disbandment funds that had been held for three or

more years on behalf of clubs that closed pending their possible re-birth.

o The difference in the amount of Interest On CD earned in 2017 vs. 2018 is merely a timing issue of when

the funds were recorded last year compared to 2018.

o The $1,275 in Outside Services expense in 2018 compared to 0 at this time last year is also a timing issue of

paying the annual subscription fee for the Constant Contact earlier this year than last.

o The $3,948 NASC Host Club Support is a once every three-year expense (i.e. was not incurred in 2016 or

2017)

o The Year Over Year increase in Contract Services is primarily due to the 2018 renewal with rate adjustment

of Skål USA’s management agreement with ABA.

o The $16,375 in insurance payments will subsequently be off-set upon receipt of reimbursement from

participating clubs

▪ The delay in invoicing of clubs is totally my fault and responsibility.

o The higher amount for Skål International dues paid to date vs. STLY is because $11,654 of 2017 dues was

mistakenly recorded in 2016.

▪ This amount was the 10% deposit paid to AFEX in 2016 to lock in the Euro exchange rate for dues

to be paid in 2017

▪ So, 2016 SI dues were overstated while 2017 dues were understated by the $11,654

• This bookkeeping error has no effect on Skål USA’s cash on hand.

• Consequently, YTD Net Income is $48,522 below STLY and we’re currently at an end of month deficit of $16,170.

2018 YTD (end of October) Income & Expenses vs. 2018 Year End Budget:

• Skål USA membership dues year to date are $18,120 (809 (12.2%) behind the anticipated amount for the full year

o I don’t expect this discrepancy to change significantly over the remaining two months of the year.

▪ The 2018 Budget, prepared and approved in early 2017, anticipated a 5% membership revenue

decline over end of year 2016.

▪ In actuality, YTD Skål USA membership revenue is $13,929 (9.7%) below 2016’s total of $144,204.

• Expenses year to date are $10,890 (4.0%) below year end expectations.

Accounts Receivable Aging:

• Nothing to highlight on this report that hasn’t been mentioned in past monthly reports.
