Female Terms Ovaries- oophor/o, ovari/o- Produce ova (eggs) and

female hormones. Fallopian tubes- salping/o- Catch mature ova,

provide the site for fertilization, transport ova to uterus. Uterus- hyster/o, metr/o, metri/o, uter/o- Protects

and supports the developing child. Placenta- placent/o- Exchanges nutrients and waste

between the mother and fetus during pregnancy. Hysterectomy- The surgical removal of the uterus

that may or may not include the cervix. Fibroid tumor- A benign tumor composed of muscle

and fibrous tissue that occurs in the wall of the uterus.

Vas deferens- transport sperm from the epididymis. Epididymis- Holds the sperm Vasectomy- The vas deferens is severed so sperm

cannot enter the seminal stream.
